Hi all! Reposting this from the "so you want to buy a K-Z" section:
Hello gang! I've been absent for a while, but I finally got back here. I've been all over the place, different forums, etc looking for a new RV to fit our needs. I have questions concerning the G382MBQ, since I keep coming back to this particular model. It looks like we will probably be ordering one early 2021.
We want to spend the majority of our time dry camping, I am looking for any information about the off grid solar package K-Z offers on their RVs. Does anyone have it, do you like it, can you upgrade it, etc?
Can I get the factory to leave out the dish washer and install extra storage instead?
I see they are putting a fireplace in the bedroom in the 2021's. I'm going to ask they leave that out...I want one in the living area but not the bedroom.
We are also going to have the full timers desk installed rather than the dining table. That would get a lot more use.
Thank you anyone who has any feedback!
Kathy

So, We actually stopped by the dealership today. He gave me two brochures for the 2021 lineup, according to what he said. BUT, the brochure says 2020 when it comes to decor options, so we shall see. It looks like you can only get one color of wood, not as dark as it used to be. It's kinda up the middle. You have your choice of two colors for the furniture - light and dark. The light is called sea salt, the dark is called Havana. Looks like the same color scheme from 2020, if the dealer told me correctly. He also told us we could "most likely" get it how we want it - no dish washer, no fireplace in the bedroom, etc if we special order it. I will definitely get that "most likely" question answered before we drop a dime on this unit. I'm going back next week to see the 382, he didn't have a 382 on the lot today. He said he's expecting a new one next Mon-Tues. We walked into the 384RLT, that's a beautiful coach as well. I still want that bunk room and that rear deck, though.
I also found through my past digging, dealers that sell Durango Gold are few and far between. Their site makes it hard to find a dealer, unless you know a zip code in another state or you look on this site for the good / bad dealer thread. Anyway, I hope this info helps someone.

A few years ago we ordered ours late in the fall, after the last RV shows of the year (October or November). We had some customizations that we wanted done to the interior. The sales guy said that KZ was more likely to agree to do them at that time of year because things were slower for them. He could have been blowing smoke at us, I don't know.

Their site makes it hard to find a dealer, unless you know a zip code in another state or you look on this site for the good / bad dealer thread. Anyway, I hope this info helps someone. I hate the fact that almost every mfr's web sites don't give you more options to find dealers. Here in AZ, we had only ONE dealer for a number of years and, before that, there were NO dealers, so their "dealer locator" would return ZERO results. The reason they push the "buy local" b.s. is simply because they have no true dealer network and they know that a good portion of their dealers won't work on, or will delay working on, rigs not bought there. It's a f'n excuse, not actual support of dealers. With a smaller company like KZ, it's even worse, and it's why they have to be liberal on non-dealer repairs; there simply aren't enough dealers to actually service what they make. When I was shopping, starting in about 2014/15 time frame, I told my wife that we'll travel to whomever gives us the best price, so be prepared to take a road trip. Thankfully, our "road trip" ended up only being about 100 miles. :-) Lyle

It would be interesting to know just how far KZ would go to customize an ordered rig. Personally, I =hate= theater seating; I much prefer a swivel recliner. I also hate those stupid solid steps; I'd much rather have the old-school steps, or at least a Torklift Glowstep option. As I said a couple months ago, there's now not a single KZ model, from 1/2 T to Gold that I'd want, which is sad. I think these mfrs sometimes change things just to change them, not because there's any real need to. Frankly, there's not many floorplans from any mfr that I'd consider right now. :-( Lyle

The dealer told me yesterday he places his order for the 382, 5 units at a time. he said they are his number one unit to sell, he can't keep them on the lot, and almost always all sold before they are delivered. He also said his orders are behind because of the pandemic - no surprise there - right now he has about 13 or so on order. The changes I want done aren't huge, I don't think - most things I want are offered options. The big thing I want left out is the dish washer. The dealer told us they just do that at the factory, it's a standard item, which I knew. So that question needs to be answered. The colors I can deal with. I'm hoping in January when we are ready to order, they will cooperate. LOL!
Thank you all for your responses!

When we got our Gold, I viewed the dishwasher as a negative. Now, we really like it. Only use it when we have guest over but it's nice.

Extra Note You can always remove the dishwasher, it's not that hard, a few screws an unplug it, unscrew the water line which has a shut off valve in line already an slide it out an put in a few shelves it it's place ... Again you would not believe how easy it is to take out, I had ours out in less that 10 minutes total ... Put it on Greg's list an sell it or put in the garage to put back in if you sell the trailer down the road ... Chuck

So at the end of the day, it won't be a deal breaker if we have to take it as is. HOWEVER, my hubby's honey do list is so big, I was trying to eliminate one item from the list. He's the kind of guy who doesn't throw ANYTHING away, because it can always be fixed later. That translates into a TON of stuff, house, a couple of ATV's, motor homes, etc sitting around because they can all be fixed. He can fix anything he puts his mind to, but it looks like we live in Fred Sanford's yard. LOL!

My DW sates the same thing, I don't know why, we only have five large parts farm tractors, four farm tractors that run most of the time, one slide in camper in disrepair, one TT now completely disassembled down to the floor, one CJ jeep running, our 5th wheel, one 25ft flatbed trailer, one 100ft radio tower with six guy wires attached, one
vertical antenna 30ft high an six wire antenna's hanging off the tower, so I don't know what her problems is, I'm
working on fixing everything an she states

Well, I am not sure we're going to purchase a new Gold, vs finding a used one somewhere. The dealer closest to us, is 2 hours away, had made promises to me he would let me know when the next 382 came in, and I haven't heard from him. There was one due in a couple of weeks ago, he has never told us it came in. The last time I sent a text to him, which he told me to do, to check if the trailer had been delivered, he never answered me. So we went ahead and took the chance, drove down there to see the trailer, and it in fact had not been delivered. He didn't know it wasn't on the lot until we showed up to look at it. Then he told me the tow vehicle had broken down, but was scheduled to be fixed and back on the road in a couple of days. He would definitely notify me when the trailer arrived, he said he had my number on his desk. That was two weeks ago, and I haven't heard from him. I'm sure the tow vehicle hasn't sat in New Mexico for over two weeks. I'm beginning to think we might be better off buying a used one, and modifying it the way we want it, than trying to go the brand new route, and dealing with a so-so dealer. The things I want to change are probably a lot easier to deal with than the dealer will be.

If their sales department is that unresponsive, imagine how bad the service department will be? Usually you're their best buddy until you sign the paperwork and pick up the unit.

That's what worries me the most. We had a bad experience with La Mesa, this looks like it might be as bad if not worse. We have issues with the bumper pull toy hauler we have now, La Mesa can't fix. To quote hubby, they can't find their a$$ with both hands when it comes to troubleshooting an issue we're having with our generator. Don't want to even deal with warranty and a dealer again.

IMO, there are times that La Mesa makes Camping World look good. No smiley... Example; when we were shopping several years ago, I wanted to look at a particular brand and a couple of their models. The La Mesa store =in= Mesa had one, so we went up to look at it. This unit had a swing door at the entrance to the stairs instead of the more usual pocket door. During transport, the door had come unlatched (or was never latched) and swung open hard enough to punch a hole in the paneling on the wall. This unit had been on the lot for at least a month and it still wasn't fixed, yet it was open for the public to view. That, alone, turned me off of La Mesa. Then I started searching out threads on rv.net (pre-KZ days) about them and found all kinds of bad reviews and just said, "nope, not shopping there". Lyle

That same La Mesa they were pushing a Vanleigh Vilano when I told them we were looking at the KZ, to the point of being down right rude. They had nothing good to say about anything they did not sell.

They, along with Camping World, are probably the 2 biggest bottom dwellers on the dealer list, IMO. Too bad they rope in enough newbies to stay in business. Lyle
