That same La Mesa they were pushing a Vanleigh Vilano when I told them we were looking at the KZ, to the point of being down right rude. They had nothing good to say about anything they did not sell. They, along with Camping World, are probably the 2 biggest bottom dwellers on the dealer list, IMO. Too bad they rope in enough newbies to stay in business. Lyle I have had much better luck with mom pop shops. One here in town gave me some used parts to fix minor issues on my 1st 5W. Last week the plastic slide on the screen door broke. I found a shop in the area and to my surprise he had one in stock just over $20, exact match to the broken one.

Well, I am not sure we're going to purchase a new Gold, vs finding a used one somewhere. The dealer closest to us, is 2 hours away, had made promises to me he would let me know when the next 382 came in, and I haven't heard from him. There was one due in a couple of weeks ago, he has never told us it came in. The last time I sent a text to him, which he told me to do, to check if the trailer had been delivered, he never answered me. So we went ahead and took the chance, drove down there to see the trailer, and it in fact had not been delivered. He didn't know it wasn't on the lot until we showed up to look at it. Then he told me the tow vehicle had broken down, but was scheduled to be fixed and back on the road in a couple of days. He would definitely notify me when the trailer arrived, he said he had my number on his desk. That was two weeks ago, and I haven't heard from him. I'm sure the tow vehicle hasn't sat in New Mexico for over two weeks. I'm beginning to think we might be better off buying a used one, and modifying it the way we want it, than trying to go the brand new route, and dealing with a so-so dealer. The things I want to change are probably a lot easier to deal with than the dealer will be. To date, this guy still hasn't gotten back to me to tell me that 382 ever arrived. I did tell him I wasn't prepared to buy until after January, but the fact he hasn't bothered to contact irritates me. I thought being a smaller dealer he would be a little more conscious about his customer service, but looks like I am mistaken. RV's are not his only gig, they are a specialty car place as well. He is almost guaranteeing I will not buy from him. I'm almost guaranteed now to go used and the 382 is popular enough I can probably find one.

Sorry, wait... you told a company that you're not prepared to buy for another 3 months? What are you expecting them to do? Order it immediately and pay to keep that rig on the lot for all those months? That's a huge investment on the chance that you buy from them 3 months from now. Can you imagine how many people walk in and say they want to buy something and never return? Being a smaller dealer, they probably don't have the capital to leave a really expensive RV sitting on their lot for a quarter of a year or more.

John, Chulavista was told by the dealer that he had one coming in for stock. CV just wants to see it before buying or custom ordering. Specialty RV is the only dealer that KZ lists as being a Gold dealer. There's another dealer in Mesa that does Sportsmen, Durango Half-Ton and Durango, but not Gold. As I said to CV in the other thread, I'd be willing to bet that this dealer would order one once CV makes up his mind on what he wants.

Hey, Chulavisa. Specialty RV is showing one on Trader right now, so I called them, and the lady I spoke with said "any day now". To her credit, she did sound frustrated that it wasn't there and said they could have sold it several times over had it been on the lot.
Also, on Trader, there are 12 (including this one) listed. 4 are in TX (2 at one dealer), 1 in OK, 2 in OH (same dealer), 1 in AL, 1 in CA and 2 in TN (same dealer). The one in CA is the closest, assuming it's on the lot. Rancho Cordoba RV, near Sacramento.
Edit: Just checked RVT and there are some on there that aren't listed on Trader. Forgot to mention that Trader showed a used '17 and RVT looks to have at least 1 used one.

Sorry John, no - I did not expect them to just bring one specifically for me to look at, they told me they had one coming in any day now. I just wanted them to contact me when it came in, so I could walk through it and look at some specific items I had questions on. I also told him I was prepared to order and pay cash after January, provided I could get it the way I want it. He did tell me he moves every 382 he brings in, it is his number one seller, and he orders 5 at a time.

You can't trust their website to indicate there is actually one on the lot. I've been all over the RV sites, and have many of them located. I don't want to contact any of those because i can't deal with them until January, so I was just hoping I could walk through one - that would be Specialty RV. I darn sure don't expect them to just bring one in for my benefit alone, I know what unsold inventory on their lot would cost them in taxes. I wonder if the lady you spoke to was talking about that particular one they were expecting a few weeks ago, or if it was in fact another one in the line of units they told me they had ordered. They told me they had a total of 13 382's on backorder due to COVID. I surely appreciate your help!!

No problem, CV. When I was shopping, I did talk to Rancho Cordova RV a couple times, but could never get La Jefa to agree to take a trip to NorCal to go look at it. They seemed to be decent people. Had I been able to do so, I'd've likely ordered one through the local dealer at the time. Oh, well; I'm about $5-7k ahead given what I paid for my current rig. :-)

I'd not be afraid to make a road trip to another dealer to buy new either....for what it's worth Specialty RV has still never contacted me about one arriving on the lot. So much for keeping my number on his desk where he could see it. The more I dig, the more I wonder if a small manufacturer like K-Z will even be open to a special order. If they're reluctant to do that, I'll just find one used.

Hello, from the thread, you have a list of things you want and don't want in your trailer. Have you submitted that wish list to any other dealers then Specialty? I read they are the closest, but I would suggest, looking online at all the 382"s around, see who sells them at the best price. Pick the nearest or most competitive dealers give them your list and have them price it. Get a timeline and a add month, see who gives you the best deal. Maybe there is one in stock, albeit not exactly as you want but close enough and priced fair enough to make it worth your while. I put two dealers into a bidding war for my business, saved enough to cover such extras as tpms, observation camera, sprayed in bed liner, etc. Just a random thought Kirt

End of the year is right around the corner, many states tax inventory. Always a good time to squeeze someone.

Spec out a trailer, then email or fax every KZ dealer I could to build it for me and give me a price. While I'm not a huge Jayco fan (even though they were #2 on my short list), I absolutely love their "build and price" feature on their web site. That gives dealers no way to play fast 'n loose with numbers and options. You can print it out right from there. I sure wish KZ would do that; hell I wish =every= RV mfr would do that! Lyle

Problem with doing a build sheet an ask them to do all kinds of mods is in some ways almost impossible, if you ever go to the Kz factor 5th wheel line like you would see this ... Yes can they make some mod's I believe so, but for the most part they are an assembly plant, everything for the most part is prefabricated to include fame's coming from LCI, side walls, floor, inside panels etc... They are not fitted like the high end shops with carpenter shops who make drawers, cabinets etc. could they leave something out an fill in the space, I believe they could but making a cabinet from scatch it may be a push unless they ordered such form an outside source ...
I as well would not rely on one dealer even thought they are close, you may find a dealer who will work with you an answer the questions you might have ... I know for use it might be a push to go to Kz HQ an talk with them, a 2500 mile road trip would be out of the question ... But for someone within say four to five hundred miles might be a nice two day trip an see the sites along the way, visit with the people at Kz an ask the questions that needed be answered, of course you would have to be 6 feet away an you could see them eye to eye while your nose an mouth is covered LOL
Safe travels

Personally, I wasn't thinking of "mods", but picking and choosing available options, just as you can do with Jayco. I just wish there =were= more options. Lyle
