Hi, I’m new to the KZ forums, but not new to KZ trailers. I just retired my 2007 KZ Jag 29JB trailer which I really liked and never had any problems with, and replaced it with a 2015 KZ 319MXT toyhauler. So far, I love this new (to me) 2015 trailer.
I have a Winegard Carryout satellite dish on DirecTV service which worked fine in my 2007 with my revision to bypass the booster. The 2015 came prewired for satellite. On the outside there are 2 coax hookups, the one on the left is labeled cable and the one on the right is labeled satellite. I only have one tv in the new trailer, which is in the living room. There is a coax connection point in the bedroom and one in the garage where tv’s could be added. The living room tv has a wall plate with one coax connection point on the bottom labeled TV which has the booster, and the connection point on the top is labeled aux/satellite. If I hook the dish up to the outside satellite connection and the inside satellite connection, the dish will not find the satellite. I took the wall plate apart and the aux/satellite connection point has the orange cable attached to it. I have run the coax directly from the dish to the receiver through the window and the dish will find the satellite. The tv will work using the local channels and antenna on the bottom connector with the booster. I have hooked up to each outside connection point and to both inside points with no luck. So, since the trailer is prewired for satellite, am I expecting too much by thinking it should work without any revisions? And, if so, what will need to be done to make it work without going through the window?
Thanks in advance for any ideas you may have on getting my dish to work.
Darrell

As stated in another thread, I had the same problem with my toyhauler. I was able to use an ohm meter to figure out which cable from the outside went to which terminal on the plate above (behind) the tv. I found that the antenna and satelite cable were both hooked to the antenna amplifier board and none to the satelite in terminal. When I moved the satelite cable to the satelite terminal, everthing worked fine. Hope this helps.

I have been pretty busy and haven't had much time to look into this yet. I did some looking on the internet for ideas (and those did a good job of confusing me), not to mention that I'm a bit technically challenged... so, fpopjfj (or anybody), how did you go about checking the cables? I made me an alligator clip jumper wire (one of the internet ideas) and took my meter to the trailer, but wasn't sure how to actually check this. As for my cables behind the tv, there is an orange cable hooked up to the satellite connection point. I'll actually get to take the trailer out the second week in April and will be attempting to figure it out before then. If anybody has any input on how to do the checking with my meter, it would be much appreciated.

rvdude.....went through a bunch trying to get my satellite to work on my 11 Escalade. Finally drilled a hole through the wall to connect it directly ...a lot less hassle. Put a screw in faceplate on the outside of the trailer.....done.

With both ends of the cable disconnected from anything there should be no reading between the center conductor and the outside shield (threaded portion). A high reading would indicate a short in the connector or a staple thru the cable somewhere. With a jumper from the outside to the center there should be a full reading when checking at the other end. This can be done to discover the correct cable. When you find out which cable gives a reading, label both ends, then move to the next. Digital meters aren't user friendly for a beginner because of the numbers jumping around. I like a meter with a needle for easy testing.

Howdy and welcome to the Kz family form
The TV booster is used for the antenna on the trailer, it should be off when using Cable an Satellite, also when trailer is disconnect from power do not leave the booster on, it will drain the battery after awhile.
There has been a number of discussions on the antenna systems on the different Durango Gold 5th wheels, some in the General folder and some in the Durango folder, not some much on satellite ...
I do not believe you need to go as far as to drilled a hole through your wall, as another member of this reflector stated use a volt/ohm meter and trace your antenna connections.
Also in your manual there should be a schematic showing how your trailer antenna system is set up, if not either call your dealer or call customer service at Kz to get one ... happy camping an congratulations on your new to you 5er

Thanks for the help and ideas. I will attempt this Sunday afternoon as I am working nights through Saturday. It was easy on my little KZ Jag trailer. It only had one coax hookup outside. I just took the cables loose in the wall at the booster and connected them together with a barrel coupler. It worked great. I have considered doing that and hooking the dish up to the other connection on the outside. Kind of saving that for a last resort fix. Thanks again. I'll let you all know what I find out.

rvdude I have to tell you there is allot of bells and whistles in the Durango Gold trailers LOL, the antenna systems have baffled a number of us You might go back to the selling dealer if they close and ask one of their techs to help or show you how the system works If you can't figure it out there is the Kz Rally coming up this summer in Indiana, Kz will have techs there to help out owner with problems. Like you said you can I just took the cables loose in the wall at the booster and connected them together with a barrel connector till you attend the Rally (Really Brig Grin) That way you can meet all of us old guy's who are really broke from buy new 5th wheels LOL

I really would like to be there at the rally... and I've been watching the vacation schedule at work... and it is available... and I go back tonight, so my first choice vacation will be changed. Therefore you will all have to put up with me in August!!! I won't make the reservation until after the days off are confirmed, but all should be set by week's end. Now, do we really have to wait 4 more months...

In regards to the satellite wiring on my trailer, I never had time to check it and I am "troubleshootingly challenged" but the KZ rep took care of it for me at the rally. He said he found the wires crossed and hooked them up the proper way. So, now I can use my satellite when I'm out.

Glad to hear that you can use yours while camping. Been to my local dealer twice to get my Winegard carryout to work properly. They are baffled , I'm baffled. wiring diagram correct testing shows correct.

2018 DG 380FLF. I had the same problem. Behind the TV is one cable going from "A" terminal to "B" terminal. I use a King portable dome for Dish. A call to KZ gave me a puzzling instruction - Attach the dome to the Cable input outside. Remove the cable from "A". Attach the receiver to "A". I have my receiver to the HDMI2 on the TV. It works for the front tv, not sure about the bedroom. Sounds like a lot of work. No explanation from KZ other than this is what you do.
Has anyone else gotten the same instructions?

Often people want to connect to satellite to the cable input outside and then connect the receiver to the wallplate inside. In order to make that work, you need to foul up the current system by making a connect behind the wallplate. The best way is to run a dedicated connection and leave the current system intact.
I ran a cable in thru the wall behind the kitchen and installed the receiver high and out of the way in a wall cabinet. Using a Wally receiver it operates on RF and there is no need to see it. From the Wally, I ran an HDMI cable to the TV thru the ceiling. A HDMI splitter sends the signal, again thru the ceiling, to the bedroom TV.

In the bay where you hook-up your water there are two TV outlets, one for satellite an one for cable Inside behind the Bedroom TV is a couple of small panels the size of a light switch panel on the overhead ( you have to pull the TV toward you to see behind it to see these )... Looking at the overhead facing the TV an behind such, the one on the left should have two connectors marked "A" an "B" an on the other panel to your right you should have a cable attached to left most connector an the other connector will have nothing on it but will be marked "AUX/Satellite" Also on this right panel will be a button with a small LED light. If you push the button it will energize the antenna booster for your king jack trailer antenna an the LED light will light up showing you that the booster is energized. I believe what Kz is telling you is to take the cable that is already connected into the connector on the right most panel which is called the booster box an switch the cable over to the connector marked "AUX/Satellite" on the left overhead panel thus providing a direct route to your TV's via the booster box ( again do not turn on the booster since it will route your signal to your outside antenna on the trailer )... You can also call Kz customer service an ask for help or even better come to the Kz rally next year an have them show you how it's routed an if it's wrong they will fix it on the spot, no charge But since that is a year away better to call Kz customer service or your local dealer an ask the questions as to why you can not get it to work ... Make sure if you call Kz Customer service you have your vin/trailer serial number handy ... As well you can post this question in the Durango Gold folder, I believe a few of them have had some of the same problems when getting their new Durango Gold's Safe travels Chuck & Hildi in S Dakota headed for the Barn
