Glad to hear that you can use yours while camping. Been to my local dealer twice to get my Winegard carryout to work properly. They are baffled , I'm baffled. wiring diagram correct testing shows correct. Don't understand the problem. Run a cable from the dish to the receiver with no splitters or switches and it should work. Mine did work when I ran the cable through the window directly to the satellite box. But, I didn't like tripping over all of the wires or only being able to get to the bedroom from one side. I could have run new wiring, but it was built with a satellite connection on the outside and a satellite connection on the inside, and I wanted it to work the way it was designed to. Cajuncamp, I was not at the trailer when the revisions were made, so I can't give you any helpful information on exactly what was done to make it work.

Of course, I understand that. If you can find both ends of the cable that was installed for satellite, and it doesn't work, then you need to fix or replace as needed. It is not uncommon for coax to be damaged with staples and rough handling. Did you test to be sure the conductor is not shorted? Did you test to be sure that you are using the proper connections. Did you test to be sure that it wasn't labeled incorrectly?

lynnmor At the Rally the Kz Tech (Chuck my name sake lol) stated that rvdude's wires we cross on his trailer while he was working on my antenna system which he replaced the King Jack antenna an the booster. So it is possible that the wires are crossed someplace, as I said, before, there is a connector on the right hand panel behind my TV which has the booster, this where it possible the wiring is crossed on the booster. Saying this if their TV works on the King Jack ( which I believe that model 5th wheel has ) with the booster on, then I would turn the booster off an I would switch the one coax jumper which is already connected to the empty connector next to it marked AUX/Satellite an see if that dozen't solve the problem ... Again they could call Kz Customer service and see if the can talk to "Chuck" who was the Tech who fixed rvdude's setup, the guy knows his stuff an like us he is no youngster so he has years of experience. His statement to me was he had worked over at Coachmen for 14 years before coming to Kz an had been a Kz for a number of years ... Safe travels Chuck & Hildi in S Dakota headed for the Barn

you look as if you are having similar excitement with you situation as i am with mine. Currently with a 2018 KZ331TH12 we have to run our satellite feed in through a window. using the cable tester it is reading a short exists between the outside plug in and the outlet behind my living room TV. alerted the best of luck in getting the correct set up . we were looking at the portable dish set up as well but will have to wait until we get our main feed into the trailer fixed next spring.

Hi Guys. I know this is a old thread but hope my questions get's seen. I'm getting ready to put a Sat. Dish on top of our 5th wheel. My question is, Is there a connection point on top of the trailer to hook the Sat cable to? Or do you have to run the line down to the cabinet (water fill/Sewer/Cable-Sat) Area? Sorry I haven't been up top. Still healing from a new knee, and not brave enough to go up there.

There should be a satellite connection on the roof. Likely to be under a cover, but mine had one up there and I have 2017 DG 381REF. My dealer installed my winegard traveler for me ... I assume they had to fish a few wires, but there was no cutting of holes in the roof.

Thanks ronc. I assumed they did on these new ones, but wasn't sure. My 07 didn't.

Mine has a roof connection prewired as yours should. It did have mine covered with sealer as I will never do a roof mount. There is also a sat connection in the water panel above the cable connection. It does require moving a jumper inside behind the TV for Sat. I don't recall which they are labeled A-B-C etc, guess to confuse us, a label inside Sat or TV would make too much sense.

Thanks Edd505, You know I thought about not doing a permanent mount on top too. I ended up going with 2 Dish(s). These things are so cheap now I went for it. I get the reasoning for not doing one up top with trees and what not. But I didn't want to have the hassle of setting it up every time and worry about putting it away if we left for awhile. And I didn't want to do a removable type either cause I don't want to climb up there if needed. I figured it's a 50/50 shot of having a clear view to Sat. at each camp site. At least that's how I sold it to the wife. LOL

We ask for a satellite friendly site. After over 100 stops during the last three years, we’ve been blocked only once or maybe twice. Our plan b was always ota regular TV, but I have gotten very used to having a guide. Our current plan b is to stream tv on an apple 4 TV using YouTube TV. OTA is now plan c.

Ron, plan "C" could be like we do carry 25 or 30 movie CD's, since we do not have satellite, if we can't get TV or Cable we have movie's, some I can tell you the script by heart LOL Safe travels Chuck

We carried 1,600 DVD’s around with us since we started full time, never watched one of them. We gave them all to my son this past year, which opened up a lot of cabinet space on the entertainment wall around the TV. It also reduced the weight in the back of the rig. We really aren’t movie watchers, but streaming offers plenty of those too.

I do not take it in when gone and so far never lost anything from my sites. I do try and meet the neighbors so they know who belongs to the equipment. Who takes everything in, chairs, tables, surge protector, satellite etc, my gen set is chained to the back rack.

Dish has HD programming on the small auto aiming tailgater type units. DirecTV requires a bigger dish to get HD. I’m fairly tied to DirecTV, but if I was starting over, I think I would go with Dish.

Dish has HD programming on the small auto aiming tailgater type units. DirecTV requires a bigger dish to get HD. I’m fairly tied to DirecTV, but if I was starting over, I think I would go with Dish. Update to my plan. I had the full Monty DirecTV setup ... Winegard Trav'ler automatic dish, Genie, mini Genie, etc all professionally installed, expensive ($138) programing package plus "the NFL package $50 per month for 6 months each year". It worked fine for two years, only getting the occasional error code 771 (lost a satellite) usually due to weather. The Winegard dish failed once (runaway motor) which was fixed under warranty ... just barely. Then we got error code 775 (Genie not communicating with dish). This has happened a LOT (10 times or more the last year). Repaired each time under either warranty or because we bought a "maintenance contract" for $7.00 a month. So not a financial burden, but a huge PITA. Over these three years, streaming has VASTLY improved and so has cell coverage. Forced to stream due to the satellite being down ... I discovered how good it was. YouTube TV (my choice of streaming service ... there are many others ... some are free) offers a very "DirecTV like" experience (DVR which is cloud based and unlimited) an on screen guide, live TV if you like it or recorded which is my preference, voice controlled rewind, fast forward, show selection, etc. ... and the cost is $50 per month ... 1/3 the cost of DirecTV. So now that we've had a couple of weeks of this experience, I am canceling DirecTV. All those wires running thru the walls and poking thru the roof, the numerous connections that are steadily trying to work loose or corroding, my need to have a clear Southern sky, signal loss in heavy rain ... all that is now off the table. Put me in the shade trees baby ... we're streaming now. To get to that point we needed to secure unlimited data plans from both AT&T (which we're getting thru a Winegard Togo - Unlimited data for one year for $360 ... that's $30 per month but paid yearly upfront) and a Verizon pre paid unlimited data plan ( $70 per month but $65 per month if auto pay). Unfortunately, the Verizon pre paid plan is no longer available so others will have to figure out a different way to get Verizon. This is just my opinion, but I feel you must have both Verizon and AT&T to ensure you get the best possible coverage (we have had both for several years and there are places where one is much better than the other). Others may not see that need, but that's my opinion. Streaming uses HUGE amounts of data and most RV parks WiFi networks forbid streaming and they are generally so bad that they wouldn't work any way. I was a DirecTV customer for 32 years ... they forced me to look elsewhere and I found something as good as and way cheaper ... I gave myself a $230 per month pay raise ... what's not to like?

UPDATE: Recalculated my monthly savings ... I chose to KEEP our AT&T wireless internet plan, for now. My savings by cancelling DirecTV is $175 (program plan, equipment rental, maintenance contract) per month ... reduced by the $50 per month for YouTube TV, so I actually only saved $125 per month, but still ... I'll take that.
UPDATE TO THE UPDATE: I had an AT&T wireless home internet 150 GB plan for $120. I canceled that and bought a netgear nighthawk wifi hot spot and an unlimited (no caps, no network management) from AT&T reseller OTR. I got a month to month plan for $60 with autopay ... so the net of that change is a $60 per month savings. This makes all of my changes a total of $185 per month less than before. Happy camper.
