This weekend I noticed a small leak under the dinette bench where the water heater is located (it's a 2017 160RBT). This is my first RV and I still have a lot to learn but I know enough that I need to fix this leak asap. I think I've found a couple area's around the window that is located just above the leak where there is a gap in the sealant. What type of sealant is recommended? Is it something that I could get at a hardware store or should I go to an RV shop to get the right sealant? I'm assuming that I need to remove the old sealant first, and not just cover up the gaps. Any other words of wisdom before I try to patch this? Thanks, Greg

Thanks. I do have a good smart charger so I'll just plug that directly into the generator. Thanks for the link to the battery info.

Yeah, originally I didn't want to spend the money for a one-time event. But I haven't come up with a reasonable alternative so I'm changing my tune. My original thoughts just won't work. So now I'm looking at generators. I'm now thinking if I get the 2200 watt Honda I can also use it to run my home furnace in case of power outage. So I'm justifying the purchase as more than one-time. I had considered using an electric outlet in the campground bathroom to charge a spare battery but wasn't sure if that would be frowned on by the park employees. I've never seen anyone do that.
I'm curious how people charge batteries with a generator, just plug in the trailer to the AC outlet on the generator like shore power or is there a better way to charge a battery directly from the DC output of the generator?
Thanks, Greg

I have had many bad experiences over the years with camping neighbors that had very loud generators. Nothing like driving 5 hours to get to a DEC campsite in the middle of the Adirondack mountains only to camp next to a generator that is as loud as a law mower. It's left me with a negative attitude towards generators and I didn't want to add to the problem. But I took a quick look at the Honda generators and they are very quiet and small. They seem to be quiet enough that you probably can't hear them at the next campsite. Might be the best option for me. Only other choice is to upgrade my camper batteries to handle a week look trip. Haven't yet decided which way to go...
Thanks, Greg

Thanks. I'll take a look at that generator.

I'm heading out for some dry camping in a few weeks and I think I will be 1 or 2 days short of battery power with my current setup. I'd rather not spend the money for a generator, solar panel, or extra 12v battery for just this one trip. I'm wondering if anyone has used a power inverter in the (running) tow vehicle to power a 12v battery charger to put some power back into an RV battery? My charger will charge at 8A and my inverter is 300 watt so I'm thinking it should work. Does anyone have thoughts on this idea? Is this a bad idea?
Thanks, Greg

I don't have an answer to your question but I have a similar setup and trailer and thought I'd pass on my very limited experience. I bought a Sportsmen Classic 160rbt last year, very similar to yours. I'm pulling with a Mazda CX-9, towing capacity of 3500 lbs and max tongue of 350. When I measured the tongue weight of the trailer (with full hot water, empty fresh water) I found I'm about 375 lbs. I had considered moving the propane tank into the trailer while traveling to reduce tongue weight but decided I didn't want to mess with the balance (I'm not as confident in my calculations). With propane in the back the tongue measured 350. Instead I followed the trailer dealer's recommendation and I got this WDH: www.reeseprod.com/products/weight-distribution/light-duty-wd/weight-distributing-kit-light-weight/xihofqeC8HJjZZHcC5mjH1hAUzBjJfsG. I also had concerns about the frame but both the Mazda dealer and trailer dealer have never heard of issues with a WDH. (I usually don't trust dealers but the trailer dealer has been in business for a long time with good reviews). Some people on the Mazda forum also pointed out the frame concern but I never found any actual reported frame problems. I did about 1000 miles with this setup last summer and so far no problems. Pulling the trailer was no problem, felt very stable and safe. I hardly even notice tractor trailers passing. My only problem is that the CX-9 transmission runs a bit hot but the Mazda dealer says it's OK and recommends yearly trans fluid change. My plan is another summer with the Mazda and then, like lynnmor's son, get a better tow vehicle. BTW, my wife and I love our trailer. I think you'll enjoy it. Greg

I have a 2017 160RBT that came prewired. It is pre-wired to the trailer tail-lights (not the backup lights). I bought the Furrion FOS48TAPK-BL camera and all I had to do was plug it in to the Furrion mount that was already on the trailer. The camera works whenever I have my car lights turned on. So while traveling I just leave my lights on and I can see what's behind me. Although, with my camera the view behind is very limited since the camera is a very wide angle. But it does show when someone is directly behind me.

I had thought about that, but the edges are sealed to the wall. I didn't want to cause any warranty issues by removing that caulking. I was mostly wondering if anyone else has seen this problem and what their solution was. I guess if I'm not willing to remove it from the wall to look the dealer is my option.

Thanks, leaking into the wall is what I'm afraid of. I guess I will take it back to the dealer.

I bought a new 16RBT this year and have noticed a small leak that comes out from under the faucets in the shower. The leak is very small and just runs into the shower so it's not a big deal, but I'm just concerned about any other issues that might be happening behind the wall. The dealer is good and I'm sure they will fix it but it's a 1 hour drive one way and I'm just wondering if anyone else has run into this. If this worth the 2 hour round trip to fix? Thanks, Greg

My wife and I have been camping for many years. This year we traded in our popup for a new KZ 160rbt. We love this new camper and have been getting out camping more this year. But it seems that there has been an increase in drinking/partying at the state campgrounds in Upstate NY over the years. There doesn't seem to be anywhere to go where there is peace and quiet (or even just being able to sleep at night). The quiet hours don't seem to be enforced. Does anyone know of any place that isn't crazy loud all night in the Upstate NY area? Either public or private would be great (although the private campgrounds seem to be worse in my experience).
Thanks, Greg

Thanks, I was missing the KIB part in my searches. Search results are looking better now.

Hi everyone,
I just bought a new 2017 Sportsmen 160RBT. On our first trip out I discovered the fresh water tank gauge is not working, it always shows empty (the very bottom LED on the gauge is lit), even when I can see the tank is full. All grey and black water gauges work correctly. The dealer has told me to bring it in and he would fix it but it's an hour drive one-way and I was wondering if it was something I could fix myself. Does anyone know how I could trouble shoot this problem?
Thanks, Greg
