Congratulations on the new trailer! I'm sure you will have many good years of enjoyment out of it.
Those dealer fees on a car or an rv can get pretty crazy. Sometimes I think it is just a way to rip off their customers.

Considering upgrade from my 5K LB to this beauty. Configured the way I want I believe dry it will weigh in just under 8K. Opinions on whether 2017 GMC with 5.3 and 8 Speed, rated to tow 9100.. Too close? seems this one has dual axle trailer brakes and I have integrated trailer brake controller? Is most of the concern stopping? Also considering weight distributing specialty hitch if anyone out there knows more than me? And go..

I have one and pulled it for 2 years with a 2015 5.0l F150 rated for 9000. It pulled it fine although probably on the ragged edge though. I now have a 2018 3.5l Eco-Boost F150 rated for 12000. I just returned from a 2000+ mile trip to Gulf Shores, Alabama from Michigan and it towed great. Just watch the weight you carry with you and get a quality hitch.

I think that traveling on the ragged edge makes for a miserable trip. I wouldn't even consider using a 1/2 ton tow vehicle for that trailer. While you might be able to manipulate the numbers to barely meet the tow vehicle specifications, you should consider wind, crazy traffic and service life of the truck.

I agree with lynnmor, traveling on the edge makes for a miserable trip an close to being unsafe. Also like lynnmor I have to agree I wouldn't even consider using a 1/2 ton tow vehicle for the TT. One always has to remember that it's all about safe your family, you, an others around you when pulling anything including a TT Chuck

Don't think Integrated trailer brakes, Dual axle trailer brakes, good hitch / weight distributing / sway control would make the difference? How close to my 9100lb could I safely tow? 7700lb dry trailer, bout 8K loaded, 9100lb tow capacity on GMC 5.3 8 Speed Crew Cab. Big question, What hitches, Weight distributing sway control do you guys recommend?

You also have to add the weight of the passengers along with the fuel of the truck etc, I use Hensley hitch for my 7k flatbed trailer an a Curt 16k 5th wheel hitch, but Curt also makes a hitch's for TT an they are a good brand as well ... Things add up an you would be shocked when pulling onto a CAT Scale or State scale what you really weigh, can you pull such, yes, can you stop such in an emergency maybe, many people pull such like your talking about here with not a problem, but that one time out of a million you get into an accident you may have more problems than you want ... You will have much more weight added than the 300 lbs quoted. Water alone will be more than that. I would think that you should plan on 9,000 lbs. That will be 1,125 lbs of coupler weight, add 100 lbs for the hitching. You didn't state the payload for your truck but it is probably around 1,800 lbs. If that is the case, that leaves you 575 lbs for people, luggage and whatever. Cheap hitches work OK if you adjust the sway control properly, few people do and throw money at an expensive hitch that takes the user out of the equation. The Hensley type hitch hitch that Chuck mentioned is reported to be the best available, but serious money.

Thank you both for your knowledge on the topic. Looking at Curt TruTrack and Hensley. Called the dealership and options installed on my truck put its effective towing between 9100-10000 pounds. W.D. Hitch weight limit is rated 1250lb. Trailer empty is 7650 and it will have upgraded suspension installed. About 850 tounge weight. I've never had full tanks on the road (yes I know I know it will bite me one day) Payload was not immediate consideration. Mine is rated at about 1600. According to GMC dealer, with W.D. hitch, I should only calculate about 500 of that 850lb tounge weight into calculation? Its close but there seem to be safeguards to get there right.

We just bought a 320vik from a individual, but seemed to be in great shape. I just went through it in the driveway and everything seems to work fine. Just had to replace the electric element in the water heater. Other than that it is in tip top shape. This is the only one we looked at that we liked the floor plan in. Just need to break it in this month..
