Brought my 196S home this Saturday and I want to hang the TV above the window where the "TV Backer Location" sticker is.
Does anyone know what size the backer is? What it's made of, how thick / reliable it is? So far all I can find is "use 1 1/2" screws (wood or metal??? ..... nodody says) I figure there must be studs in there somewhere but my stud finder is coming up blank!!!!
I'm hanging my 24" LCD/DVD combo on it but it has a quick release so I wont be travelling with it mounted.
Thanks for reading, ANY, info would be greatly appreciated. (nothing in the manuals either)

I just purchased 200 spree escape, I have tried to figure this out to. I also am trying to mont 24" lcd tv combo. Contacted the factory and they don't have blue prints to tell you exact location. I was told this was 12 by 6. The best we can figure out is that this a metal plate, not wood apox 1/16 thick maybe and runs from stud to stud. I am using a mount that has swing arm. I have not got it mounted yet,but are working on this. I was told not longer than half of a inch mountaing screw by factory. I do know but the wall is 1 and one quater thick. Other wise you will be thru the fiber glass. I wish they would have some type of drawing to show you exact,as you can't see with the wall board up.

The Spree sidewalls are laminated, there are no studs in them. All laminated sidewalls are an aluminum perimeter frame filled with sheets of beadboard foam which then have the interior panel and the fiberglass skin glued to the foam. The backers are thin sheets or strips of sheet metal glued between the foam and the backside of the wallboard. Be very carefull to not over-tighten the mounting screws or you'll strip the hole in the backer. A magnet run along the wall will show exactly where the backer is.

Thanks for the info / suggestions. Seems to me that 1/16 sheet of metal would be rather flimsy. I've read about people securing a piece of plywood to the wall onto the backer and then mounting the TV mount through the plywood/wall/backer for extra support. I'd like to think that this would be overkill and the factory backer plate would be rated to carry a minimum weight. Even better, it would be nice if it were mentioned somewhere in the owners manual. (or the 4 inches of manuals that came with the trailer - lol) 2:34 on this video was the closest I could find last night to any "extra bracing" information. By the looks of this video, it's only a strip of metal or wood - hard to say on this video. www.youtube.com/watch?v=cldv8aokvEw........ off to scan the wall with my magnets.

I have pictures, I can show you how my T.V. is mounted. I have to figure out how to post them. My T.V. is mounted by the door on a swivel about a foot to the left if you are standing inside the trailer; AND IT'S NOT GOING ANYWHERE. The wall should feel a little firm. If you send me your e-mail I will send the pictures of mines.

I'm anxious to get this TV up before my kids break it. Thanks again, looking forward to seeing some pics. Kevin

I used a stud finder on my 24 Sportsman to find the backer, and it worked fine.

Stud finder came up with nothing for me but the magnets did the trick.
Duane, thanks for the pics and your dealer's service desk was a huge help.
Turns out, the metal backer is only for locating purposes ... 6" wide X12" tall. There is a section of plywood behind that. I was told to use 1 inch screws (coarse thread wood screws, but you have to drill a pilot hole through the metal backer first) plus the thickness of the TV mount, so somehwere around 1&1/2" total length. That way, the screw gets as much bite as possible into the wall. I was also told by another dealer that they use silicone adhesive applied to the TV mount before they screw it to the wall; just to prevent vibrations from loosening the screws over time / usage. (I'll probably do that too - over kill never hurt anyone)
Thanks again for the pics and info.

Roy (rklomon@yahoo.com) ,
Could you also share the TV mounting pictures with me as I have a Spree Escape E18RBT that needs a wall mount. I was told the wall panels are 48" with studs on 16" centers which means the tape over the window covering the wall seem should be the joint of two panels so i have a location 6" off the side of the wardrobe wall next to the window which should have a stud (if they actually used studs like they did in the Sportsman video on youtube).
Regards,
Bill (kitchen_b@hotmail.com)

So, I mounted the TV today. As it turns out, there is no plywood behind my metal backer plate. There is, however, foam insulation. In any event, I used #12 metal screws after drilling pilot holes and they gripped the metal backer plate with no problem .... the unit is solid; even with the TV fully extended away from the wall. (I have no intentions of traveling with the TV mounted. Why cause unnecessary stress to the wall while the TV bounces and vibrates down the highway) For anyone else considering doing the same ............ -Locate the backer plate with magnets (I found this to be the easiest way - stud finder did not work for my trailer) -Walls are 1.5 inches thick. -Add that to the thickness of your wall mount. -Subtract .25 inch. This will give you a good length to use on your exterior wall without puncturing the exterior. -Check to see if you have plywood behind the pilot hole - if so use wood screws, if not use metal. LASTLY, if you must use a screw-gun / cordless drill, do NOT over tighten. You'll only get one shot before the metal or wood strips and your left with either holes in the wall that you'll have to look at or a floppy wall mount that will eventually fall off under the weight of the TV. Snug is perfect - best way to tell is by hand with an old fashioned screw driver for the final couple of turns. Hope that helps somebody out.

I want to hang a tv/dvd combo but alittle hesitate in drilling holes in the side of my trailer. Has anybody ever considered mounting a earth magnet to will stick through the wall to the backer plate? Figured yoi can easiily stick it to the wall when needed and pull it off while travel. Just wondering if anybody has experience with these strong magnets
