Going to look at one this weekend. This is the only 1500 that doesn't offer a factory fireplace. Just wondering if anyone has installed a small insert below the TV on one of these units? If so, how hard was it? What size insert worked? TIA...

laknox Looking at all the 1500 series it look like a number of them do have fire place's, did see a 255RKT in the 1500 series without a fire place as well In the 277 an 255 it look like you could take out the cabinet doors an in the 255RKT the draws next to the doors an put a fire place into that space ... Not a big fan of rear kitchens which the 255RKT has in the back of the trailer but it all depends on how well you pack stuff so it won't bounce out Both nice looking trailers, looks like they run between $35K to $42K depending on what part of the country your in Good luck looking I'm sure you know your way around a trailer but as a good reminder to jog your memory If you decide to buy please read my PDI list in my post kzfamilyforum.com/thread/1681/buy-kz-trailer Chuck

The 277 I looked at had a converter panel? that would be in the way. If there is room any chance you can get one factory installed or have the dealer do it as part of the deal?

I plan on taking a tape with me to measure the opening under the TV and see if I can find an insert to fit. Got a couple good cabinet guys who could trim an insert in, I'm sure. Talked to the owner of the dealership and he made me a =very= attractive offer, just to get rid of it. The 2 KZ dealers here in AZ have almost no luck in selling the 1500s and won't order any for stock.
My #1 choice is still the D284RLT, but if I can save $10-15k and take a different model... D@mn hard choice. The 284 is still my #1 overall choice, though. We went to look at a Jayco Eagle HT 27.5RLTS, which is very similar to the 284, but found that it had NO pantry. Kitchen storage is =very= anemic, so I'm glad I took the DW with me, who pointed that out. Makes the 284 stand out even more, as there is a smallish pantry to the L of the stove and MW above, as well as the island option. Wasn't a huge fan of the island, but now find it may be necessary, if we end up with a 284. As it stands, I'm looking at traveling almost a thousand miles just to =look= at a 284... :-(

laknox Hey a 1000 miles is a nice road trip, enjoy the ride, stop an have lunch, take you time an have fun, sounds like a two day trip ..... The D284RLT looks like a really nice trailer an believe me the DW along with you will use that center island more than you think ... With a number of us at the end of last year an beginning of this year we all saved a ton of money on different 5th wheel models... A number of us thought that since Thor had bought them out that Thor had ask Kz to lower their prices to get more attention to Kz in the trailer market... As jetzen an use our G384FLT MSRP would more than likely be in the 80's our 5th wheels were in the low 60's an the dealers were will to even knock more off to sell the trailers ... Have fun an look the trailer over top to bottom Safe travels Chuck

OK, so I've signed the paperwork and am heading to the dealer tomorrow, Nov. 30, to pick up the 1500 D277RLT! I've already done, basically, 2 PDI's on it (WE, actually) and, overall, were pleased at the condition of a unit that's sat on a dealer lot for 10+ months. 3 "major" issues were some degraded dicor around 2 vents that they are supposed to re-seal. Also, a scrape along the roof, about 3' long, with one suspect spot that may, or may not, have penetrated the membrane. They're supposed to run some dicor along the scrape, just to be sure. (I'll likely just put a piece of eternabond-like tape over the top, as well.) The right side of the pantry, where the door attaches, is cracked all the way through, about 8-10" up, but doesn't go edge-to-edge. They're supposed to fish-plate it on the inside, just to be sure. The facia trim board above the bedroom door is also cracked all the way through, and almost edge-to-edge and is loose, as well. They're supposed to fab a new board, stain it to match and install it securely. Lots of small issues, like loose cabinet door handles, loose trim in several places. Nail poking through the vinyl trim around one window that's so sharp that DW drew blood when she tried to "brush" it off. Loose/poor wallpaper installation, all inside cabinets. Tomorrow, hopefully, there won't be any function issues, or I might not get home until Friday. (Wondering if I should take a change of clothes? Hmmm...)
Down-side is all dealer-related. This is a new unit, and under warranty. They were trying to get me to "compromise" on some of the warranty stuff because they gave me such a good deal and are losing money. We very nearly walked on the deal on that, but I kept going back to the fact that the =owner= of the dealership gave me an OTD price, with no mention of "as-is", though I don't know how anyone could sell anything as new and under warranty in "as-is" condition. They'd have needed to take another $1-2k in "hit" before I'd've even considered that. In the end, we worked it out and signed. I did learn something, though. AZ has no "cooling off" period, i.e. no "right of rescission". Once you sign, you own it! We had to sign an acknowledgement of this, too.
So, now we're part of the "KZ Family"! Maybe we'll see some of y'all at the KZ Rally one of these years. :-)

laknox Well Welcome to the KZ family I would start making plans now for the Kz Rally this coming summer, you will not believe the customer service you will get, not saying they would. but if you put down on the work sheet about the cracked doors an such I'd bet you would get them replaced along with cabinet hinge's. Thus if they do not fix such under warranty at the dealer, you could get them fixed at the rally under warranty. I will say our dealer fixed the hinge in our 5th wheel on a cabinet but it still was not right, at the rally they replaced the hinge an door to make sure it was right As you stated you have already complain about the roof, a roof can cost upwards of six thousand dollars or more, so if it's under warranty it's on the dealer or Kz not you thus getting the 2 year warranty was a good thing an was a must You also might look into this but I believe the roof should have a 11 year warranty on the roof product against any leaks, thus a rip may void the warranty on the roof ... (also I do not know if I would put my own fix on the roof. if Kz looks at it an states that you have messed with it they may say it's on you, this of course if it starts to leak, then you have more ammunition to get a complete new roof under warranty)
Then at the Kz rally see what they have to say, you never know, I saw them replace stoves, counters, sconces all because customer stated that they were not right... I saw them take out the davenport in one Durango Gold because the DW said that there needed to be more padding in the cushions, they redid this overnight an had their davenport re-installed the next day ... I broke my ladder, my fault coming to the rally, they replaced it without a problem, a week later after the rally I bent the grab handle going into the trailer, went to the factory an told them I owned a G384FLT an was willing to pay for it, they handed me a new handle an said thank you for buying our product an said have a nice day no charge The 2 year warranty is worth it's weight in gold ! ! ! As you will see when an if you come to the Kz Rally next summer, I can't say it enough !!!! The 2 years warranty comes from the factory an not the dealer, you also have a one year warranty on all appliance's provided by the appliance MFG which is good for the 1st year, the second year is on Kz.... Thus you have two full years on appliances an the trailer even if it's 10 months old , the warranty starts from the from the date you buy the trailer brand new...
Do not let them BS you into thinking you have only a limited time warranty because the trailer is 10 months old, if they give you any guff first ask them to show you in the warranty paperwork provided by Kz that this is a fact, they can not because it states in the warranty paper work 2 years from the time you buy the trailer not from the time the trailer was made or when they received the trailer, it's when you buy it new !!!!Again Welcome to the Kz Family, lets us know how things turn out please Safe travels Chuck PS: Again on the roof, if it was damaged by the shipper they should have paid to have the roof replaced, the dealer also has insurance which could cover a new roof if they damaged it. As well if it came to them damaged they could have shipped it back to Kz an had them fix such, same with the doors, they could have ordered new doors ... Makes me wonder if they didn't make money from insurance either from the transport company or their insurance an just put a patch on it

Every dealer also loves to say that they are losing money on the deal they gave you. It's a psychological game to get you to seal the deal. Unless that camper was new and 2+ years out of model date, they were not losing money on the deal. That's my opinion anyway. Nobody could stay in business if they lost money on every sale.

Chuck, the scrape on the roof wasn't all that bad =except= the one spot. We'll see what they do for me, but, because it =should= be on the paperwork, the factory should be on notice that there were roof issues when delivered. If not, I'll contact KZ CS and make =sure= they know. :-) I'll be sure to have pics, too.
Heading out shortly...!

All I can say is that we were =very= close to 50% off the stated MSRP, which did jibe with a KZ options sheet that I happened to acquire, so I'm not too unhappy. Lyle

What the salesperson should really be saying: If I cut the price for you, I cut the commission for me!
50% off MSRP sounds like you did some pretty swell negotiating!

Glad you got what you were looking at an our happy with your new 5th wheel Believe me Kz will have the paperwork ASAP, I called Kz CS a week after we bought our 384, they knew who we were an had all the paperwork including warranty paper work in the computer records/system Safe travels an again congratulations on the new 1500 Chuck

Unfortunately, Chuck, CS is going to get to know me pretty d@mn quick. Managed to split slats on both the small blinds at the rear on the way home from the dealer. There are no tie-downs for the recliners and they rocked enough to punch the window handles through a slat on each blind. I =asked= the salesman =and= the tech that did the demo if I should raise the blinds for transport, and both said "don't bother". Of course, I didn't think to put the chairs back-to-back so that any rocking would hit the walls =below= the windows... Then, when I got it home, I stopped by my dad's house and, despite trying to be very aware of my height, managed to scrape a low branch across the front cap before I could get stopped. I'm nearly 2' taller than my old one... (insert many VERY bad words here)... I haven't had the heart to crawl up and see if anything =else= got dinged. At least I didn't find any vents or skylights laying on the street...

oh gosh Lyle, hate it when stuff like that happens! It's worse when your wife tells you to stop, but you go ahead anyway and hit something (you know, not me, a friend of mine! I would always stop ).
