Anybody into cast iron campfire cooking. We have had a lot of fun cooking with our dutch ovens over the coals.

We used to use the cast iron dutch oven all the time when camping years ago. We're just getting back into it and I anticipate using it again. I've baked, roasted fried and stewed in it. They are wonderful for most any type of cooking. We only use cast iron here at home too.

I really need to good and easy recipes for my dutch oven? I like to pre-plain my meals so it won't be so much work while camping. Any good ideas?

I don't usually feel like eating after a "dutch oven".

I use mine quite a bit and recently was introduced to a nice tripod setup. Its different than ive used before and way more sturdy and rugged. I anticipate that being my choice of cooking venue for a while now!!

Evergreen in Mt. Eaton is always top notch. That's where we go when in that area. We used to go to Baylor Beach but the majority of sites are pretty small and they only have a few large pull thru sites. Not sure if they're even open in April. Honestly haven't been there since 2005 or 2006. There are a few other campgrounds that we've seen driving around, but most look like converted corn fields, all grass and no amenities. Saw a new one just outside of Berlin last time there, but we didn't stop and I don't remember the name. I think it was on Route 39 somewhere.

Lehman's Hardware in Kidron might consider being a sponsor, they have a nice supply of Lodge Cast Iron products.....can't hurt to ask.

What do you think they'd sponsor? Part of the camping cost? Put on a workshop? Discount for supplies?

Talked with lemans hardware. They are not interested in hosting us with a location. Since they have a local dutch oven group that they work with memorial day weekend. And dont want to host two so close together. We are holding another meeting Tomorow here in Pittsburgh . To determine a final location. The meeting is tenitive as of now. Due to a chance of incliment weather. Keeping a close eye on a approaching storm . Will keep you all posted. On Further details.

Just wondering if your Dutch Oven event is taking place and would it be open to us? We are trying to plan our travels beginning in April and would like to include your event. Do you have a website for the new Dutch Oven group. Thanks for the info.

held our first meet and greet DOG at Racoon Creek State park, in Western PA april 25th. woke up saturday to a blanket of the white stuff, but as the day progressed, the sun came out and temps reached a balmy 54 degrees. overall we had a great event, we had 4 acres of cherry, oak, and hemlock trees all to ourselfs for the day. had 20 people in addendance, start cooking at noon, and samples flowed troughout the crowd until our 4pm dinner time. where i counted 21 pots on the table. also meet a couple from Wooster Ohio, who will be hosting the National IDOS cookoff in Loundinville Ohio, june of 2016. i plan on attending this event, and will keep you informed as it would be great to get some here to attend as well.
