I always pulled my battery off my escape 196, and kept in in the garage on a piece of wood hooked to a battery tender when not in use, and over the winter months, I got tired of doing this every weekend, so I hooked it up to a solar panel, wired to a disconnect, every few days I turn the disconnect back on to top off the battery now. delco rv marine deep cell, 7 years old now, still going strong!

funny thing about my 196 escape the axle is not exactly centered in the wheel well, this is how its factory made. unless 100% solid chocked, my camper squeaks a little and rocks while walking around, I just got used to it, dont even give it much thought anymore.

blew a tire on my spree escape 196s, in pouring down rain, only problem changing it was the lugs on the tire, and the nuts holding the spare on the back bumper are 2 different sizes. had to use a crowbar on the spare, and a 3/4 inch socket with a long extension on the flat tire as they are receeded in the alulium rims of course I didn't have both with me so I know I need to pack tools better.

seems like most recommend replacement tires over stock, especially with the 5vers, and bigger trailers, however does this still hold true with the smaller single axle KZ trailers like my escape as well?

Went camping this weekend at Ohioplyle State Park, all went well until we went to pack up, my wife pushed the button to close the Dinnette slide, when all of a sudden heard a loud clunk, seems that the frame work holding the metal roller inside seemed to break clean off, lucky for it closed before it decided to give out, after getting it home and better investagsting, found out that. The whole lumber assembly was held together with no more than a fewbraid nails, cut the nail heads off, and connected the frame. Back together with 2 Mending plates and 2 screwed in metal plates. Seems pretty solid, actually more solid than orginal manufactured.

looking for a easier way to clean, and keep it clean awning solution, tried srubbing it with bleach/water mixture, mean green, and soft scrub before . it gets somewhat clean, but after storing it for 2 weeks, it looks bad when i unroll it again, especially after a rain storm. this past time i did a bleach, water and dawn dish soap mixture, pumped it on with a spray bottle, rolled it up for about a hour, then re opened it and hosed it off, it came somewhat clean except for a few stubborn stains that dont seem to come out. just wondering how others clean, and maintain there awning, especially during storage times.

yes there should be a metal backer plate in the wall on the right of the door, take a strong magnet and you should find it, don't run too long of screws thru thou.

Will check the schedule....this year is really busy with camping already. Have you heard anything about the East Coast DOG this year? We went last year and had a great time....still liked the Bird In Hand, PA, DOG best, too bad the weather didn't cooperate. bluegrass, i touched base with mike and mike from east coast dog, they are alittle behind schedule on the 2018 East Coast Dog, but said more likely a repeat at Codurus State Park again in September. exact date TBA the exact date is September 7-9 2018 at Codurus state park

I think you will be struggling with any bunk house you buy with a jeep Cherokee, I have a 196s bunkhouse, (basically the same camper your looking at.) and pulled it with a grand Cherokee with a 4.7. but it was still marginial especially in the hills here in Western PA. you would need to invest in a good weight distribution hitch, brake controller, and trans cooler to say the least. i had all the mentioned upgrades, plus heavy duty brakes, rotors, leaf springs, and heavy ply LT tires in addition installed yes my jeep would move it, but stopping it is another story. white knuckle driving sucks! you also have to take in account for the frontal area of travel trailers (basically pulling a solid wall behind you) . i used to have a old coleman utah popup, 12 ft box with slide , my grand cherokee did pretty decent , but when i moved to a enclosed trailer i did notice a difference. I upgraded to a fullsize pickup to feel more safer, and never looked back. i know you mentioned popup campers before , but if your concerned about beds or sleeping quarters, you should reconsider. lower frontal area , easier to control with a unibody frame on your jeep , gets you off the ground, and yes some do have heat... just my thoughts, hope it works out for you, keep us updated. let me know if you ever in the Laurel mountains of PA again, i live fairly close, maybe run into each other at some point.
