On are first trip with the new TT. Do we need to have both the gas and electric switch on to get hot water. We are in a camp ground with electric but could not get hot water until I turned the gas switch on. Maybe I misunderstood are dealer's instructions. Thanks in advance for any advice.

You only need to have the gas switch turned on! I also tried the electric but it didn't work. I'm not sure what is going on there but gas heats the water up quickly.

If you open the outside access to the water heater there should be a very small butterfly switch on the panel behind the gas burner that has to be flipped on for the electric heating element to energize. If that is not switched on the switch on the RV control panel for electric element will not work. Be sure to never have the electric element turned on if the water heater is not full of water or it will burn out the heating element.

Thank you found the switch and turned it . Must have missed that instruction in the walk through. I now it had to have water in before I turned it on. Don't think they could have hid it any better of they tried. Thanks again.

they also don't recommend using both heat sources at once.....I know some will do it initially to get hot water faster then turn one off but it's not recommended. Personally I'm never really in that big of a hurry for hot water where I can't wait 10-15 minutes for the water to heat up.

I've never been told not to run both heat sources at once, Actually I was told to do the opposite. Gas will heat quicker and electric will maintain the temp. During high usage (Three showers in a row) The gas will give almost continuous hot water.

I run both just for the initial heat up, or if multiple showers are back to back.

A quick check on Suburban's website (if you have a Suburban water heater) will confirm that it's certainly ok to run on both sources.

sorry for the misinformation then.....I don't have my manual here at the house but I could've swore I read in there not to run both sources at the same time. I'll have to go back through and read it again....maybe I misinterpreted something??

I think my Durango manual mentioned not using them both at the same time. But, as I posted, Suburban says its ok to do.

I almost always start up with both electric and gas so I can get a hot shower as soon as I'm done setting up. Once the tank is hot I switch to just electric for the rest of our stay.

Actually that's what I do also, but if there's several going to take showers just about back to back, I'll turn back on the gas so nobody gets "frozen" ...

I solved the hot water issue by replacing our OEM 12 gallon RV hot water heater with a Truma AquaGo .... on demand, never ending hot water with no scalding issues, no altitude issues or adjustments needed. It's expensive, but well worth it IMO.

A little more info on the Truma AquaGo. Just finished a 3 week 4 day trip. Two showers everyday (wife and me) each was long and hot!! Used 1/2 of a 30 lb. LP tank ... unbelievable economy. I figured it would be a "propane hog", turns out it is exactly the opposite. Truly a model of engineering efficiency ... gotta love those German engineers. Worth the money, no doubt.

How did you get it?? I've found site after site praising them but I've yet to find out how and where to buy one. I did a zip code dealer search for an infinite distance on their own web site and got nothing.

Sorry for not answering ... not diligent about keeping up on the forums. I went to the Truma website and found a dealer near me.
