Has anyone implanted a cord reel in their Durango or KZ? If I wanted it in the compartment with the water, I'd have to rearrange my trunk a little bit. I keep my chairs and tables there right now and this box would make it harder to get things in and out. Maybe the sewer tote could go there and I could use the front for chairs? Would putting something like this cord reel in the front make any sense? I'd still have to carry it around to the side.
Anyway, is the manual crank difficult to work? Any problems getting the marine locking end inserted to get it started? Is the crank sturdy? Should I look at the 12V electric reels instead?
This is just a suggestion. When we had the Montego Bay I used a plastic Christmas wreath container that I got at Target to coil the power cord in for storage. It worked really well and was a lot cheaper then a reel. I use them for the sewer hose and one for the water hoses also. They work great because they have a hinged lid that seals it up and I don't have to worry about dirty power cord and hoses hogging up the RV basement. The only bad thing would be that you have to wait until Christmas season to get them. The Stoneridge has a power reel but I still use them for the water hose and sewer hose to keep things clean in the RV.
Hi shortlance. I already have a tote that I store the cord in, but I don't like lugging it around and coiling the cord can be difficult at times (especially if it's cold out). I'm trying to find ways to reduce the stressors on my back.
My Durango came with a power cord reel. It is located in the left rear of the camper. Since it was built in I can't really comment on whether or not it would be an easy upgrade for you.
FYI, the power reel works real good.

Looking at something like:
Thanks!
I installed this exact unit in my 2017 Durango Gold 381REF. It is easy to use and very sturdy. It allows you to wipe down the power cord as you wind it in, keeping your basement cleaner and uses less floor space than the dirty cord used to occupy when laying on the basement floor. Like most Mor/Ryde products, it's well designed and first rate.

That is a great idea, using the Christmas Wreath containers. I just bought a Durango Gold 382MBQ. This model does not have a bumper, where I typically store my sewer hoses. I was considering making one out of 5" PVC and strapping it somewhere on the unit. Your idea is genius and very simple! Thank you for posting. If I pass this on, I will give you full credit, rest assured!
We installed this exact unit in our 2017 Durango Gold 384RLT on the left side compartment next to the wall that has all the water inputs and outputs ... didn't take much room at all and was very easy to install, four screws ......
The crank handle has a drag on it, so if you loosen it, it's very easy to turn, of course the more you tighten it the harder it gets .... I found it on the Good Sam site for less than $200 on sale but when I went back it was gone off their site, it was allot cheaper that the automatic one for $700 Ugh
As far as putting my cable in a plastic box, did that, try whining up a 50amp 30ft cord in 40 degree weather and you would be looking at a reel as well LOL, thats for young people not us old geezers LOL (Grin)
