We decided this year to trade in our travel trailer for a 5th wheel. After shopping around, checking the ratings and reviews, and comparing dealers, we decided on the KZ Durango Gold. After several trips we have not found a thing we would change - other than the dealership. I guess all dealers are great when you are writing them a check, but when you have issues you quickly find out how they really operate. Then again, maybe I just expect too much.
We picked it up on April 4th of 2015 and during the walk thru I ask about the rear view camera I had requested. They had forgot to order it so they ask us to bring it back for installation. Due to schedules (work and personal) we were unable to return until April 25th and were told by the Service Manager they would install it then. When we arrived (Service Manager doesn't work Saturday) and told the service department why we were there, they informed us that there wasn't any one that could do electrical on Saturday. Since we live 75 miles from the dealership we elected to leave the trailer and pick it up later in the week. I was able to leave work Thursday April 30th and drove down to pick up the trailer. When we arrived they took my truck and hooked up the trailer while I paid the bill. When we came out they went over the camera and we were on out way home (mistake #1 - I didn't do a walk around). It was late when we arrived home so I parked and unhooked from the trailer. When I did I found they hadn't hooked up the break-away cable. My parking is on a half moon area so it's pull in and unhook, no backing required. Friday evening I was mowing the yard I could smell the chemicals used in the black tank, on closer inspection I saw I was missing an end cap on the bumper and there was mud caked on the other end of the bumper. When I washed away the mud I could see that end of the bumper hat been hit and there was quite a dent on the end. Needless to say I was MAD!!! I emailed then that night with pictures. Monday the Service Manager called and starts apologizing that he forgot to tell me about the bumper and that they would fix it and on and on. Ok, I had cooled down and one thought was, hey, it's a bumper and that's okay, but wait, it's only a month old!
At first they were going to replace it with a bumper from a local steel shop but it wasn't wide enough to hold my sewer hose. So they were ordering one from KZ (at least that's what I was told). We took the trailer back to them on June 6th and left it. Then they insisted they wanted to make all this up and that the owner would bring it back to us. Well he brought it back. When he arrived I told him just pull in the half moon and drop it. He did, I was standing next to his truck, told him that was fine but I guess he wanted to demonstrate the art of backing a 5th wheel. All the time I'm telling him it's fine. The next words out of his mouth are - "where is that gas meter?" and at that exact time he found it. He promptly pulled forward, unhooked, informed me he would pay half to repair the meter and he left. I handled the gas meter problem and it only cost $70 for the repair. He did call me back that day, I could not hear him as he was cutting out so bad. I told him at that time the repair was $70. I haven't heard a word since.
So I have a new 5th wheel with a dented bumper with a paint job that would have looked better if they had used a cows tail. To say I'm disappointed is an understatement. The next closest KZ dealer is 160 miles away so I guess I will determine if I take it back where I bought it or double the trip.
