Can the front jacks be lubricated on my 2012 Durango? They are kind of noisy as the weight increases when extending the jacks. Anyone else have noisy jacks?

Hi Ron, Here's a link to an Atwood PDF regarding landing gear: Atwood Landing GearThe maintenance section says that once a year we should extend the legs completely, clean the tubes and coat the inner tube with a silicone spray lubricant. We should also oil the bushings and lubricate the gears. Did you get manuals with your RV? Anything specific to your landing gear?

My manual doesn't indicate any routine maintenence for the landing jacks. I guess I could contact the manufacturer if I have their name. Thanks for the help

I just had the landing jacks replaced on my 2008 Durango 325. The factory jacks started making noise like you are talking about then finally just quit all together. It had the one motor system. They were replaced with with totally new jacks with the 2 motor system. It really works well now with the 2 motors.

Great! Mine only has one motor also.
To Johnr: I see you have braces on your landing jacks. How much do they help stabilizing the unit?

They help a lot actually. I used to have a tripod but stopped carrying it when I found I didn't need it any longer. The only time we get noticeable wiggle in the camper is when the front end is very high.
Side note, make sure you loosen the bolts BEFORE you try to retract the landing gear! It is now the first thing I do on the day we leave a campground. It was definitely no fun sitting out there with a hammer trying to get the bolts loose when I made that mistake.

I have a note on my remote to remind me to loosen the bolts on the JT strong arms so I don't forget them. They are well worth the investment!

Thanks, I've heard good things about them. Time to get out the checkbook.

I'll chime in on the JT's they work great! I also have a 2012 Durango and have noticed that unless I'm going to be camped at the same location for quite awhile, I don't use the bolts. I'm amazed at how solid my Durango is when on the jacks. Another reason why I don't always lock them is that I DID forget one time. It's not a pretty picture.
So, if you use them, make sure you have a good system to remind you ... shortlance has what I would call a pretty good idea on that.

put a piece of masking tape over your jack switch as a reminder

I second the use of PURE SILICON SPRAY. I have a six point auto leveling hydraulic system. I spray and wipe down all the landing gear rods, before I retract the gear. Those leveling legs are actually hydraulic rams which are sealed by wiper seals when they are drawn back into the cylinder. The silicon spray film (after wiping them down) keeps the wiper seals pristine with no abrasive grit ever reaching them, the legs themselves are corrosion free and free of pits. This keeps the system running like new with zero leaks. This takes about 5 mins each time I do it.

I spray liquid wrench silicone all over everything (almost). Slide out rubbers, jacks, doors, stair hinges..just keep it off the paint.
