Hello everyone!
Looking to go to the Finger Lakes area of NY this summer for 3 to 4 days. We've never been there.
So, what are the good campgrounds for units the size of a Durango 325RL (about 36 feet long bumper to hitch), prefer to have full hook-ups and 50amps.
Then, what's to do around there?
John

I would check out Watkins Glen campground at Seneca Lake. Campground is right at the falls, which is a nice hike. Town is a fun place to walk around. Wine tasting everywhere!

I see a KOA in Watkins Glen and I see one called Clute Memorial Park. Is one of those the one you're talking about?

There are a bunch in the area, but the KOA is the one I was talking about.
Watkins Glen Sate Park is right at the falls.

We love the Finger Lakes. Watkins Glen is a great location to camp and venture into the area. We have stayed at the KOA, very nice. We also like the State Parks but I don't think they offer full hook-ups and size of the unit is an issue with some. Friends of ours camped at Sampson State Park and loved it. They have a big 5th Wheel, I am not sure if they had full hookups. As stated, the town of Watkins Glen is fun and the ride around any of the lakes very relaxing. The area's wines are top notch. If you like shopping head to Windmill Farms on Saturday...it is near Penn Yan, NY....they are only open one day a week. Lots of good quality craft vendors, plus other vendors...indoor and outdoor sales. If you want to venture away from the lakes for a day, Corning Glass Works in Corning, NY has a very nice glass museum. Also a walk up into the Watkin Glen Gorge is really nice....lots of steps as you climb along the narrow gorge with flumes and waterfalls. We are going with friends to the area in July...looking forward to it. Enjoy.

Me again, I have seen Clute Memorial but never checked it out. It is on the lake, rather open appearing. I think, it is run by the city or county.

Thanks! I don't think we're going to be there over a Saturday. We're planning on being in Cook Forest something like Friday through Sunday with family, then heading over to Finger Lakes from Sunday through Thursday, then to Lancaster to finish out the trip.
My wife loves these "let's travel across 4 states in a week and a half" trips. Two years ago we went from Ohio all the way to Maine, staying in VT, NH, MN, and PA. At least this one doesn't seem like I'll be driving as much!

Hello everyone I am checking in after a couple of years loving our StoneRidge ul36. With that said I am sitting in a campground on Lake Seneca called Sunset on Seneca in Lodi, NY. It is an older park that had been bought by new owners who are improving it and getting rid of the 1950's park models and making new camper sites. I did not say RV sites. No pull thrus. All back in sites. 30-ish electric. Blew the breaker minutes after powering up the ac. On these few sites they split the breaker! neighbors also had on their ac. No tv reception (your satellite only) no wifi in the park but we are getting good att reception for the hot spot. The owners and staff are very very friendly and helpful. They deliver you fire wood right to your site! They were great helping us pack this thing down hill onto our site that would fit a 30' travel trailer comfortably. Yes we are 38' and I always tell camps up front the size of the unit. The state park, boat launch and beach are a stones throw away for swimming.
So, if you are not pulling a monster like a full 38 ft fiver, it is a nice peaceful park.
Now here is my towing concern, it is farm land, narrow two lane roads with a nice little mountainside road in ..... then out of here. We leave Wednesday, if you don't hear from us, send the kz posse!
Hope everyone is enjoying their camp season!!

Yes! We got out, easier than expected. Nut there is a KOA at the south end of Seneca Lake at Watkins Glen that we wild look into next time. There are many places to go. We went mainly for the wineries. There are not a lot of places to eat on the wine trail. A few wineries had cafe's the prettiest was Glendora's deck for lunch.
There is a beautiful gorge in Watkins Glen at the state park. If we had time we would have gone for the day. Corning Glass works is not that far. The lake is very scenic.
We only had time for one lake but plan on returning. Not that park though. :-)
Have a great summer!!!

We're going to the Corning KOA at Watkins Glen next month for 3 or 4 days. I'll let you know how it is!
What is the wine trail? Is that like a walking/scenic thing?

The wine trail is a driving tour around the various Finger Lakes. Each of the lakes feature a wine trail. They are all good. On your tour you stop at wineries of your choice for sampling wines or/and tours of the winemaking process. Many now charge a few dollars for several samples. I do not recommend weekends for the tours...very busy, but if you have no choice it is still fun. Check to see if they are open on Mondays...seems that during some seasons they close on Monday but with the tourist season open I assume they are 7 days a week. If you are into wine tasting and want to take the Keuka Lake Wine Trail, purchase their Keuka Lake PassPort book. It cost about $15 dollars and covers 2 people, if you go to 3-4 wineries it pays for itself quickly. It gets you wine tasting at most wineries around Keuka Lake plus discounts on purchases. There are a few that don't participate, I believe Bully Hill is one who doesn't but one that we still go to anyway, we enjoy the story and sampling experience. You can buy the PassPort pass at most of the Keuka wineries....Dr. Frank's is one for sure. In the past McGregor's winery, on the pass, also gave you a small cheese and cracker plate as a bonus. If you go to the Keuka Wine trail website and seach or look for Passport info, you should learn more. Also, if you use the PassPort and hit all the wineries be sure to have each winery stamp the prize drawing page and turn it in for the year end drawing....who knows you might win. I think, this info is up to date...it has been a couple of years since we have been there. We plan to use the pass again this year.
We are going to Keuka State Park in July. It's a typical state park with just electric but we have always enjoyed our stay there in the past and it is close to the Keuka wineries. We can handle a few days with just electic.
If you are camping over the weekend and want go shopping on Saturday, head for Windmill Farms. It is a large indoor/outdoor shopping complex, lots of craft items, some wine sampling, and the typical flea market things. We have enjoyed a stop there. It is near Dundee, NY a little distance to drive from Watkins Glen but the scenery is alway beautiful along the way. You will find brochures at all the brochure displays or google it ahead of time. They are only open on Saturday....at least that was the case in the past.
If you want to take in a nature walk, go to Watkins State Park Gorge. I am not sure if there is a charge or not, last time I was there they didn't. You walk a path with lots of steps through the gorge. If there has been some rain, which we have had lots of this year the water falls and flumes are very pretty. It is also usually nice and cool if the day is warm. Your campground will have info. about this also.
Hope this was helpful.

It isn't far, just over 30 minutes from Watkins Glen to Hammondsport according to Mapquest, I thought that was the case. Keuka lake is west of Seneca lake....it is the "Y" shaped lake. Watkins Glen is at the base, south end, of Seneca Lake. All the lakes have great wine trails as I said before so if you don't want to drive over there you will still have a great experience. The little town of Hammondsport at the south end of Keuka Lake. It is a quaint small town; it is fun to stop there for lunch or ice cream
Also, we enjoyed the Glenn Curtis Air Museum near Hammondsport.
