Made our reservations for the first trip of 2015! We're going out over Easter weekend, April 3rd through the 6th. I'm hoping that the weather is decent. It's less than 2 months away already.

There IS a light-at-the-end-of-the-winter-tunnel. We too have made reservations in Lancaster, PA for early April, we have to be there by April 6th. We have tickets to see the Sight and Sound production of Moses. We saw Noah last year, they do an incredible productions. Last year we went down to Lancaster and had a half-inch of road-slush ice on the trailer...what a mess. Hope this year is warmer. Happy Trails!

We go to Lancaster a few times every year---just can't get enough of that area!!! I am looking forward to spring to start camping but April might be a little too early for us. We are definitely fair weather campers and now that I finally retired we can go camping whenever the mood hits us---so I guess we will be gone all summer! Hope you have nice weather for your trip in April!

Although I have to admit April is a bit early for camping in that area. We stayed there once in late May, 50ish during the day, 30ish at night. The whole time we passed signs on hotels offering cheap rates (because they were empty) and we could not help but think maybe it would have better to leave the trailer at home. But, then we wouldn't have the great stories about how the fire barely kept our front warm, while our back was growing icicles.....just went inside and watched movies.

You are the optimist.... I know you live near by, and I can look out my window at the snow on the neighbor's roof. The trailer is surrounded with snow......got to pile it somewhere when clearing the drive, and the empty spot in front of the trailer (needed to hook up) isn't used this time of year.

Western NY has been a bear this year. Our trailer is sitting just off the road with 2 feet of natural snow around it and at least 4 feet of snow rolled up from the road plows...we might have to get the tractor with the loader bucket out to dig out for April. They are predicting more snow this weekend. On the plus side, Dunkirk Dave, our local Groundhog predictor, says that Spring is less than 6 weeks away. It sure doesn't seem like it though. I don't really care if it warms up or not....I just want to get our camping again. One year we went to Lancaster in mid-March. As long as the furnace works I am happy.
Have you ever been to Holmes County, Ohio. Beautiful Amish area, not as commercialized as Lancaster, PA. We go there at least twice a year, only 4 hours away for us. We enjoy both areas.

Holmes County is our favorite get away. If you decide to camp out there check out Amish Campsites on Rte. 62 in Winesburg. It is a small campground, about 60 sites, with exceptionally clean restroom/showers. They do get larger units in but it is really geared for the smaller campers....our 30 ft is TT and smaller is a good size, but as I said they have a few sites which can accommodate larger. The sites all have WIFI, water(seasonal), electric, and grey water drain site. They do have a dump station and water at the bathhouse during the cold season. They are open all year. The owners are wonderful people...we enjoy staying there 2-3 times each year....it's the only place we stay in Holmes Co. If you arrive on Sunday, they are technically closed but post open sites on the office door, set up and you can catch up with them on Monday morning. There isn't much to do at the campsites but we go to relax and see the countryside. For children there is a swing set and sandbox with toys. They do have at least 3 geocaches within the campground.
We really enjoy Mrs. Yoder's Kitchen...very nice buffet on the weekends. If you head back and want a good lunch, diner style, try Boyd and Wurthman's in Berlin, on the main street.
We will be heading out there in April or May to stock up at the Bulk Food stores in the area.

For the Lancaster area, where does everyone camp? We generally stay at Starlite, but it really isn't designed for larger units. I caught my awning on a pole there last year trying to navigate out. It is a spectacular view though.
Our trip in April is to Holmes County, Evergreen RV Resort in Mt. Eaton. It takes about an hour and a half to get there. We are in that area usually 3 to 4 times a season.
A campground on Rt. 62 in Winesburg? Where at exactly? I drive through Winesburg every time I'm there. We usually stop at Winesburg Meats to get jerky. We used to love that little family restaurant that was right on 62, they made the best mush that I've ever had.
I've only ever been to Boyd and Wurthmans for breakfast.
Where is Mrs. Yoder's kitchen?

They are a resort campground. We like to stay all the way up the mountain in the back--it's like you are in the middle of nowhere. There is also Mill Bridge Village on rt, 30. It is close to the strasburg RR and RR museums. They have real nice stream side sites but they are only 30 amp so we usually go there in spring or fall when we do not need both AC units to run. You do not want their 50 amp pull thrus because they are just a parking lot with full hookup installed. There is also Country Haven campground. They have no swimming pool and nothing for children to do. but they have a lot of nice drive thru sites and can easily handle big rigs. The owners do enforce the rules but it is a nice quiet place to stay. Both Spring Gulch and Country Haven are gated campgrounds and all three can handle big rigs.

In Lancaster we stay at Mill Stream Campground next to Dutch Wonderland....I know it's an amusement park but we go in the off season so the park isn't open. It is a very nice quiet campground.
Amish Country Campsites is on Rte. 62 between Wilmont and Winesburg....a mile or less from Winesburg. There is a large sign on the road and a house which is their home and office. As I said, it is tight for large rigs but they have a few larger sites.
Winesburg Meats has the best Jerky anywhere. Their Summer Sausage is great too. They make their own hot dogs also.
Mrs.Yoder's Restaurant is in Mt. Hope, just off the main intersection....great place to eat. On buffet nights you will wait in line for a table....lots of locals are there. They have a website so you can see the menu.
If you are in to hardware stores or woodworking, vist Kiem's Lumber in Charm, Ohio. Great ride and like the Disney World of hardware stores.

Mill Stream Campground, that's near the outlets on 30? Do they have full hookups? I think this is the one I've seen and wondered what it was like.
Spring Gulch looks pretty nice from their map.

Is Mill Bridge Village (30 amp sites above) the same as Mill Stream Campground? Is Mill Spring a different place? I think I may have confused myself!

Sorry for the mix up- they are two different campgrounds. I was talking about Mill Bridge Village with the 30amp stream side sites.. Mill Stream campground is the one by Dutch Wonderland. Both places are right off rt. 30. I never stayed at Mill Stream. There are a lot of campgrounds in the Lancaster area to pick from. Website address www.millbridge.com

Old Mill Stream Campground is very nice. We wondered if we were making a mistake camping so close to the busy area but it is very quiet. The campground is bordered by a nice stream. On the other side of the stream is farmland. Most times we are there before the park, Dutch Wonderland, opens. We have been there when it has been open and even then it isn't very noisy. The park closes before dark, at least in the past, so the evenings are not an issue. If you are going to be there during park operation, you can ask for a site on the farthest end away from the park. We like it at Old Mill Stream Campground. You can check things out on their website for more info....also, the park hours at Dutch Wonderland.
As far as the 50 amp service, I can't say for sure but they have had some very large rigs in there when we have been there, I assume at least some sites are 50 amp. It is full hookup plus WIFI.
We really like camping there.

Thanks! My wife was talking about Lancaster just yesterday and I told her I have a couple new places to check out. She wants to head there for 4 or 5 days this summer.
