Hi all
My wife & I just bought our 2013 Sportsman Classic KZ 21FKT and we love it! We are now getting to the point of were I need to put in the anti-freeze....I just don't know where to and i don't know where to locate my hot/cold water bypass. Do i go through the city water intake or the fresh water tank? Any help and/or direction how would be greatly appreciated.
thanks, Mike & Julie

usually pump the anti freeze through the water pump, open all your low point drains, and drain your water tank, alot of good you tube videos out there, bascically all units are the same.

there should be a cold intake usually on the bottom of the tank and a hot comming out the top. you need to run a bybass between them

Hi Yazzy. I recall my Durango manual being very good about explaining the hot water bypass method. Here is a simple image of an RV hot water heater:
(Hopefully that loads in)
Basically you'll see 3 valves, 1 leading to the COLD, 1 leading from the HOT and 1 on the BYPASS line. When running normally, the BYPASS will be off, and the COLD and HOT will be on. To winterize, you'll want to turn the COLD and HOT off, and turn the BYPASS on.
Some units will have only have 2 valves. 1 will be a ball valve, usually at the T intersection of the cold water line (to re-direct the flow), and then 1 to turn off the HOT pipe.
Since this isn't something you want to get wrong (or you'll be spending time and money in the spring), I would recommend calling in someone (like a friend who has an RV or a dealership if necessary) to help walk you through the first time. I know my dealership has several workshops each year on winterizing best practices that they put on for the owners.
Good luck!

Side note, I just looked at that image again, and it's wrong. All 3 valves are ON and they shouldn't be.

Well, I appreciate all the info that you have given me...I'm glad i joined to get some help! I think what i may do is have my dealer install the bypass for me so i don't screw it up. it's probably easy to do, but wanna ear on the side of caution!
Where are all of you folks from & how long have you been camping??

I'm from Northeast Ohio (between Warren and Youngstown). I've been camping around 17 or 18 years I think.
So, your RV doesn't have a bypass already installed? Got any pictures you could post for us?

My wife Julie and I are in the southeast region in mass, about 35 minutes from Cape Cod! I will definitely take a pic or 2 of non-existent bypass if I can. It's tucked in a tough spot! We would love to venture out further and meet new people/campers...we love camping! Can we get more info out near cooks region??

We bought a Spree Escape this year and ours did not come with a bypass. I didn't want to wait and order a kit, so I got a flex supply line at Lowes with 1/2" pipe threads on each, and 2 1/2" pipe nipples. I simply disconnected the water heater lines and jumpered between. (Plus I drained the WT). The only newbie mistake I made was that I missed shutting a low point drain and shot the first gallon of antifreeze right out on the driveway Rrrr :-)

My trailer came with just one valve to turn and a check valve on the top line.

My trailer came with just one valve to turn and a check valve on the top line. Our Stoneridge also has only one by pass valve at the intake and one on the by pass line and a check valve on the discharge end (top) of the tank.---It makes things so simple I don't understand why KZ can't spend a few bucks and do that with all their RVs. Mike--just a reminder to pour some antifreeze in the sink and shower drains to keep them from freezing and some in the hopper also to keep the sewer gas out while no water is in it.

Thanks for all the great helpful info everyone, but I think I'm going to contact the dealer i got my KZ from. I really want to make sure it's done correctly! I will try to eventually post before & after pics.

buoyantc, I hate it when I forget to shut the low point drains! I know someone that does it so often that they put a bucket under the drains to catch the fluid! hahaha
Good luck, yazzy!
