We left on a vacation to Colorado from Kansas City a few weeks back. I left early to be able to make Colorado before dark. Less than 30 miles from home I had a blow out on the right rear trailer tire. It was still dark around 6 am and I didnt notice the blow out as the trailer remained steady. I soon realized something was wrong and pulled over. The tire had completely distengrated and the steel belt had done a great deal of damage to the wheel well trailer side and even bent the rear stair case. These tires are factory installed and have less than 10,000 miles on them and I watch the inflation on them like a religion. 80- PSI. The long story short we were able to continue our vacation after having the tire replaced. I am guessing the damage to the trailer will run over a $1000.00 to have repaired on our return.
This adventure has cuased me to do a lot of internet research on trailer tires, Gross axle wieghts, and load ratings, none of which was ever discussed with me as a new trailer owner. My bad for not doing my due dilligence on this. I encourage everyone to check your tires frequently and get a acurate axcel wieght on a truack scale. Base your tire purchases on your gross axcel wieght. Most of the forums recomend to stay away from chinese made tires and go with Michelin or similar brand . Good Years have some problems as I noted in the forum areas on this subject. I am seriously thinking of installing a tire presure and temprature monitoring system in the near future.
BTW we love our KZ 38FL and get many comments on it as we travel.
