Hi, my 2013 Durango 325RL has an LED light strip on the awning tube. Not too long ago, I saw something that would be a great improvement. The LED strip was mounted on the side of the unit, underneath the awning. This way the light could be used even if the awning was rolled up. Thought that was a pretty good idea.

Not only that, but it frees up the track on the awning roller for other accessories like a screen room or a sun shade.

Thought about doing this too. Was going to splice into the existing wires, but add a switch to the side of the trailer. Still have to turn the main switch on to use the new strip, but better than having to run new wires.

I added it to my spree 5er. Was pretty simple. Got a RGB kit on ebay with RF controller so it can be mounted in the storage. Used industrial 3M backing to hold the strip below the camper then used a kit like this one: www.amazon.com/Wiremold-C110-CordMate-Kit-White/dp/B00004W3ZP/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1446477949&sr=8-4&keywords=cable+hider to hide the wires. Ran the wires down along the arm of the awning and drilled through into the basement area. The battery is right there but I chose to draw power from a basement light so it would also run from the inverter when plugged into shore power. Came out pretty good....looks factory installed. A tip for running that strip is I set up 2 ladders and a 2x12 between them as a scaffold. I then took a dry erase marker and measured down from the bottom of the awning where I wanted the strip ( I believe about 2"). I then took the dry erase maker and put a dot every 6" or so the length of the awning. As I attached the lights I would just go from dot to dot and that kept it from having a wavy look to them. They're straight as an arrow.
