I purchased a brand new 2013 KZ 315 toy hauler in the fall of 2012. When it is a hot day and we leave the rv closed up with the air conditioner running all day we smell the septic system. We spoke to the dealer and on their advice put a hurricane on the black water tank vent. That did not help much so we raised the vent pipe above the air conditioner and put the hurricane on top of that. This helped some but we still smell the septic smell when the AC is on all day. We are so upset by this we don't know what to do. The only room that does not seem to smell is the bathroom. Does anyone have an ideas? I am about to give up on having an RV!

You may have leaking AC ducts that push air into the "attic" area. This air then may be finding its way outside causing a negative air pressure in the trailer. As a test, try opening windows a small amount at each end to see if that helps. Pull down a ceiling speaker, or other fixture, to see if there is a blast of cold air coming out of that opening.
Also, look for vents under sinks that may be the source of the odor.

Thanks for the post. I looked and found vents under the sink and that is what was making the smell. There is a vent under both the kitchen and bathroom sinks as well as for the tub. I don't understand why there are vents for the grey water into the cabin. There is a vent on the roof so why would they also vent into the cabin. Now that I found the problem, any ideas what to do? Thanks so much for the advice.

These vents are a cheap and simple way to allow air to enter the drainage system so that the water moves to the tank freely. A vent thru the roof would be better, but that might cost a nickel more. The roof vent that you see probably is only for the black tank. You should be able to unscrew the vents and take them to Lowes or HD for a better quality replacement. Lowes has the black ABS fittings in my area. Mount the new ones as high as possible.
