I was just told by the dealer I purchased my 2013 Sportsmen CL 171RBS from that I couln't install a swaybar because the frame/tongue was too narrow to hold it. I'm just not too sure about that as I've seen other small Trailers with sway bars. Any others out there towing a Sportsmen Classic 17'er? What's your story on swaybars?

We purchased our 2011 Classic 14rb last year and the previous owner already had a sway bar on it. Being a short, light, single axle trailer it is a good thing when playing amongst the semi-trucks or just dealing with side winds.

I posted on another site also, and everyone says they've had no problem fitting up a swaybar to the Sportsmen Classic 17'......can't figure out why the dealer told me I couldn't.

Maybe he didn't have one to sell. Perhaps the trailer tongue is very thin where it mounts and might be damaged by adding the sway ball. Anyway, a friction sway control is available from Harbor Freight for $29.99.

Was told today by KZ Custoner Service that the Sportsmen Classic 17RBS "shouldn't" need a swaybar. Never got a call back from the technician that I was referred to & who I left 2 voice mails for, but Sharita in CS called back to tell me it "Shouldn't" need a sway bar.......Well, I don't like the word "shouldn't"......sounds like a cop out to me.....don't want to make a commitment on it either way. She said if I felt I needed one perhaps I could find a speciality shop that could install one for me since my dealer said they couldn't. I'm splitting hairs on my departure date & will only have 3 days @ home in GA to get all this settled before I head out to NY....hoping for calm winds and no big trucks passing me~~~~LOL.

How did you make out on the sway bar issue?,,,,I have one on my 19ftr that I don't think I need on it "most" of the time.

I was able to get one installed. The ball plate was a bit too wide for the frame & all 4 bolts wouldn't fit but they attached the ball plate @ an angle with 3 bolts and I hauled from GA to NY with no problems. May not have needed it since I tried to stay away from interstates as much as I could to avoid the big trucks breezing by. Would rather have it an not need it than the other way around.

We had an Equalizer 4K WD hitch installed on our 2015 14RB when we picked it up. Drove it home on Interstate and toll roads, with no issues what so ever from winds or large trucks.
On our first 600 mile trip in mixed highways and some high winds we were glad we had our Equalizer. No sway and very comfortable and confidant towing. We're sure we made the right decision in our purchase.
Sway control gives us peace of mind and a more pleasurable traveling experience. Happy camping everyone.
