Hi all. Just curious what vehicles everyone has to tow their travel trailer. Ours is the Spree Escape 196S. Dry weight about 2,600 lbs. We have a Jeep Grand Cherokee with a 3.6l V6 engine. It just doesn't seem to have enough power to tow the trailer. Does anyone have a vehicle with a 4.0l V6 engine? If so what vehicle and does it tow well? Thanks!

We towed our 25' Coyote with my old 2004 Grand Cherokee but it had the 4.7L HO V8. It did the job well. Have since upgraded to an F150.

Hi, I have the same trailer as you and tow with a V6 2012 Toyota Highlander with tow package. I've had no problems with this combination of trailer and tow vehicle.....mark

Hi there... I have a 16RBT and was towing with a souped up Pontiac Torrent. But have now just bought a Ford F150. I made this decision because, although I could pul;l with the Torrent, I did not want to be counting every LB of cargo to make sure I wouldn't over tax my SUV (rated at 3500lb tow capacity). So now, I am planning on having a fun summer with out the stress!

Hi, I have a sportsman classic 190 (3500 lbs) and tow with a 2014 F150 5.0 V8 and tow package 3.73 posi, good for 11,300 lbs. Yah it's overkill and a 2013 Hyundai santa fe LWS good for 5000 lbs.

Last year we pulled our classic 170 (#3500) with a Dodge Dakota, 3.9 V6 Magnum. It got us down the road, it just "worked" all the time. Having over a million miles on my backside driving tractor-trailers, I knew how to get the most out of her, to keep it rolling.
Upgraded to a Ram 1500, 5.7, HEMI this year. My brain shifted to nuetral....so much easier without worrying about having to "work" at keeping it moving. As Musikgrrl said...a lot less stress.

It's not just about moving, but you've got to be able to stop your trailer as well. If your vehicle is having a difficult time getting it down the road, it's going to have a difficult time stopping it in case of emergency. Better to have too much tow vehicle than too little, in my opinion.

We tow a Spree Escape 202 (3050# dry) with a Gr.Cherokee 5.7 V8. This tows well, though 10mpg is about as good as it gets. We're thinking of a second vehicle and wonder if a mid-sized p.u. such as as a Tacoma, Frontier, or Chev. Colorado with tow package could handle this tt. Any thoughts?

I have a 2013 sportmen classic 190. I tow it with a 2012 jeep liberty 3.7L-210hp. The liberty is rating 5,000 lbs. tow capacity. The 190 classic loaded is 3,500lbs. I went from Maine to Birmingham Alabama without any issues. She worked a bit going through the mountains,. However the Liberty has a tow mode button which locks out the overdrive gear in the transmission. 12-14 mpg while in towing.

I tow my spree escape 196 with a 2004 grand cherokee. 4.7 V8. It pulls pretty good. However would be a little leary pulling with a smaller v6

I have a Spree 26 foot and tow with a GMC Sierra 1500 All Terrain, Crew Cab, 6.2, Z71. I also just installed a ProPride hitch. I have not towed with the new hitch, might take it out for a test this weekend.

I have a sportsmen 320 that says 8800lbs gross. I am looking at an 08 f150 with a 5.4 and 3.73 gears and the trailer tow package says it tows 9200lbs. Anyone have experience with a similar setup?

We have a 27 ft SportTrek, weighs over 8k loaded. We pull with a Dodge 3/4 ton, Cummins diesel. Using a real good WD hitch you never know the trailer is there. As mentioned above, just because you can pull it, doesn't mean you can stop it. I use the diesel exhaust brake for nearly all slowdowns then the wheel brakes for the last bit. That includes the trailer brakes. You have to adjust to make it all one braking system.
Just because the book "says" it will pull xxxxx pounds doesn't mean you can or should. Remember, it is not just the trailer weight, but all the contents you have in the tow vehicle as well. Your hitch is a big deal, get the best you can, a weight distribution one for sure. Trailer weight is dry, by the time you load it up, you will add a lot of weight. Max hitch weight is another overlooked item. Assume, you have a 500 pound hitch limit. Your WD hitch is a hundred pounds by itself. Then add one or two filled propane bottles at 50 pounds each, then another 50 pounds for a battery. That only leaves you 250 pounds for the trailer tongue. And that assumes, you haven't loaded a bunch of stuff in the trailer front end.
You must do the math, and do not trust the trailer or tow vehicle dealer. Get out the books and do the math yourself..... And never go more that 75% of the capacity.
