Bang for the buck?
I was just commenting in the battery thread about wanting to upgrade to a dual 6v system for more storage capacity.
Has anyone done this with a good amount of solar collectors and if so what has been the out come>?
Id like to add 2-4 panels and dual 6volt batteries , I know its going to take alittle enginering. a charge controller etc. Has anyone done this to their connect?
I appologize if this thread topic has already been opened and addressed, total newb to these forums.
Thanks!
(ok updated this post since i did find a thread about the solar jack discussion)
Just for referane id never use that jack. it has very small wire and will not accomodate what id be trying to accomplish and that is keep the fridge on and solar lighting while boondocking.
I want to wire a charge controller in and im curious if anyone else has put about 200-600 worth of solar panel on and if that was enough to basicly keep the fridge and maybe the water pump running indefinatly i do have a very good lil inverter generator and based on some of what i read it may just be best to use gasoline.
id like to know if anyone has been met by overwhelming sucess with what im suggesting
Thanks !!

I've upgraded to two 6 volt batteries (225 ahr) and a 170 Watt solar panel. The solar panel is free standing so that I can move it around the campsite to get the best sun. If I have full sun for 1/2 the day, it fully charges the battery to run the fridge (on propane ... still uses battery on the control panel), water pump and hot water tank (on propane ... still uses battery on the control). We scrimp on lights, trying to use only one. The radio occasionally (we bring a battery powered radio instead) We can run the furnace, but that is a battery hog. If the panels are shaded, or its cloudy and rainy, I have about 3 days battery power with little to no sun. I would suggest a larger solar panel as I believe this is the weak part of my system. It does take engineering to built and wire up the system - I learned a lot about the wiring in the trailer. We use a separate deep cycle battery and inverter to run the TV. I charge that with a separate solar panel, wired into the connector on the side of the RV.
