I have a Titan XD with a 6.5’ bed. Will I need a sliding hitch to tow a D230 RDK? If I can use a fix hitch should I go with the Demco or Andersen Ultimate. Prefer the AUH because it’s light and easy to remove but read an article saying using the AUH would void the warranty on the camper.

I have the AUH with F250 6.5 bed and I pull a D290 RLT. The adaptor should not void your warranty. You are not removing are replacing any original equipment. I would defiantly ask the dealer, but I do not think it can void your warranty. If you were to go with the air ride hitch yes, I could see a potential problem due to replacing OEM parts with aftermarket parts.

I pull a Durango D250RES with a Sierra with a 6.5’ box with regular hitch. My buddy pulls a Winnebago fifth with his 6.5’ Ram with a regular hitch too. He’s never had an issue in the 7 years with it.

Most mfrs =and= Lippert, seem to be OK with the AUH as well as the Reese Goosebox. It's the "true" GN adapters that are the problem. These are the ones that clamp to the king pin and go straight down onto the GN ball and put a LOT more stress on the frame around the pin box area due to the increased twisting leverage. As for the AUH, please be aware that many states, AZ included, require safety chains, as they =are= a ball hitch. This also means that if you're planning on double-towing, that would be illegal here in AZ, as you'd have a ball / ball connection. Here, the first connection =must= be a fifth wheel while the second connection can be a ball or pintle. Lyle

^^^^ good point! Illegal up here in Canada too regarding double towing. Lead trailer must be a fifth wheel hitch.

The Arizona law states that, "The middle unit is equipped with a fifth wheel and brakes. The middle unit may be a farm vehicle or a horse trailer and shall have a weight equal to or greater than the rear unit". Doesn't say anything about ball to ball, the way I read that as long as you are not doing it with a TT I believe you are ok. Kind of left up to interruption, I guess. A horse trailer is going to have a gooseneck hitch. But I could be wrong about all that.

Prefer the AUH because it’s light and easy to remove but read an article saying using the AUH would void the warranty on the camper. It's on page 26 of the Owner's Manual. It states in a large blue box, "Gooseneck hitch adaptors can cause damage to the RV Frame and will result in the frame warranty being voided." According to my dealer and KZ, the AUH is not authorized. It sure looks appealing though. One that is authorized but is pricey is the Reese Goosebox 16k www.amazon.com/Reese-Gooseneck-Trailer-GOOSENECK-Accessories/dp/B07PRXNY7W It's $1400 brand new and with the short bed you're going to need an offset adapter most likely. That will add another $500 on to the price. I'm in the same spot of sorts, but I have a Ram 2500 with a 6.5 bed. Good Luck

What they are referring to is the pin box on the 5th wheel itself. If you remove that and install a gooseneck connection that hooks onto the ball in the bed of the truck, then yes that will void your warranty. That is not how the AUH works. Myself, along with plenty of others use the AUH with no issues.

In fact, I bought my 5th wheel during a camper show in San Antonio Texas. The factory rep guy was there, and he recommended the AUH to me.

A horse trailer is going to have a gooseneck hitch. But I could be wrong about all that. Here is the full text: 3. A recreational vehicle may pull two units if all of the following conditions are met: (a) The middle unit is equipped with a fifth wheel and brakes. The middle unit may be a farm vehicle or a horse trailer and shall have a weight equal to or greater than the rear unit. (b) If the rear unit has a gross weight of three thousand pounds or more, it is equipped with brakes. (c) The total combined gross weight of the towed units does not exceed the manufacturer's stated gross vehicle weight of the towing unit. The "middle unit" would be your fifth wheel RV; no GN adapters allowed (or AUH or Goosebox) due to the ball hitch. Period... Lyle

Lyle this is not to dispute with you this is for anyone that has the AUH. I contacted Arizona DPS today and proposed the question about the AUH and double tow. No where in the law does it state that the AUH or a GN adaptor cannot be used. The DPS told me I was correct and that I would be fine double towing with my RV in Arizona.

If that's the case, and the AUH or GN adapter are NOT ball hitches, why does AZ law state that they must have safety chains? I would have contacted an ADOT Officer rather than a DPS Trooper. Lyle

I contacted AZDOT first they sent me to AZDPS. In the end we are all responsible for our own decisions no one should just take my word for it if they have concerns. I have a printed email that I will carry with me, but I do not believe that it will ever come under question. I have done my homework on this matter and feel I am well within the AZ. law.
