Going to order a 2nd A/C for our D1500 277RLT, most probably a Penguin II 15k low-profile. I already know that this will be a non-ducted install, so will be using a Dometic "Universal" air box. Can I a$$-u-me that, since my OEM A/C is a Dometic, the wiring for the 2nd A/C is for a Dometic unit with "standard" plugs / wiring? Does KZ have any sort of install instructions / videos specific to KZ products?
FWIW, I'm going to call them tomorrow and see if I can get any sort of answer.
If any of y'all think I'm making a mistake with the Penguin II, please don't hesitate to speak up. I am NOT locked into this by any means.
Thanks, Lyle

I have looked at them and when mine go belly up I plan on them. I like the low profile and I have to watch the Mach3 units height backing into the carport, centered or they will hit the roof line. Not sure about "standard" plugs it should just be 120V to the unit and the thermostat wires.

Lyle Yep the non ducted are controlled by the ceiling unit, had one a number of years ago in one of my 5W's. That should make it easy, 120V & your in business.

Anyone here done an A/C install on a pre-wired rig? Is it pretty straightforward? I'm thinking, remove the vent trim on the inside, scrape the dicor on the outside, unscrew the vent and remove it, clean the roof, install the A/C. Given that this is 120v, do they actually have a J-box to direct wire the A/C?

Talking to brother today, and he asked me if I was also thinking about adding a soft start(s) to my rig. Hadn't thought about it. If I do, I figure I'd need one for each unit as I don't see one made to run 2 A/Cs for a 50a application, only 30a. So, what's a good brand and what capacity do I need? Both are Dometic 15k units.
TIA, Lyle

just added a 15k unit. Coleman 15k with inside control box....281 RLT .. WaS pre wired for AC and thermostat wire...I couldn't find thermostat behind anything so I went with ceiling mount none ducted ..Had to box in attic area where roof vent was because it was all open..Cleaning Dicor off roof is easy with heat gun on low and plastic scraper..Short cut to get unit on roof....Use extension ladder and double rope delivery box and pull it up to the roof on the ladder...I used RV roof tape to cover the screw holes from vent and give a smooth surface for the foam seal...Bedroom bathroom area gets to 68 degress with 100 plus temps....Main area gets to mid 80s...

Thanks for the info, especially about the vent screw holes. I think I'll put a flush dab of goop in the holes then cover with Eternabond. Watched one video where they were talking about covering the attic gap with foil tape. Be a no-brainer if they make these to fit in the vent hole with the trim left in place, but that's too easy, I guess. I =think= there is a 'stat plug that will mount to the ceiling control unit so I don't have to "cut 'n paste" the wires. I saw one video where the mfr had actually put a ceiling port next to the vent hole and it had a low-profile J-box for the power wires. Connected those, screwed the J-box back in and put the cover plate back on. Nice 'n neat with easy access. Getting the unit up on top won't be an issue with a front end loader and a strong son-in-law. :-) Lyle

Lyle, I considered installing two of the softstarts on my ACs, however I seen they started releasing plug and play units such as the one below that does the same thing at the power source. The active start model below is for 50amp applications. It also provides all the surge protection as well. A bit pricey. Link below to the unit along with a Youtube review. I never decided if I am going to go this route yet. I boondock a lot so seems like a logical solution with a big enough generator. active-controls-llc.myshopify.com/en-ca/products/copy-of-activestart-50amp-acs50pwww.youtube.com/watch?v=JCAhqs2ClXoCheers Corey
