My breakaway cable snagged as I was making a sharp right turn leaving a campground and the trailer brakes locked (the trailer was still hitched to the truck). I stopped as quickly as I could but the front tire on the drivers side had some of its tread gouged off on the paved road. Roadside came and replaced the damaged tire with my spare and we drove home. My tires are all ST235/80R16 HiSpec Oracle. When I tried to find a dealer to purchase and mount a new spare I discovered I had to order directly from HiSpec and find a shop to mount them. Instead I purchased a SAMSON ST235/80R 16 from a Goodyear garage and they mounted it for me for less than the HiSpec purchase price plus shipping. Now I wonder - is it ok to mix tire brands on my trailer? Is it ok to use the SAMSON just as a spare? Do all the tires need to be the same brand?
BTW I replaced the old breakaway cable with a ZIP 6 foot cable. We'll see if that eliminates the snagging (first time that's happened since we bought the Durango Gold in January 2022).

As long as the tires are of the same load capacity you will be fine. Yes there may be some slight differences in their traction but we aren't pushing things to that extreme a level. Also, FWIW I have snagged my breakaway twice- both times pulling into the same campground,(I think their driveway is cursed) so it happens. luckily I didn't damage any tires.

Thanks for the information - very helpful. Hopefully no more snags for either of us!

Just like Ford / Chevy / Dodge get the right size/load and pick a brand.

Personally, I'd look at Sailuns, if they're in the size you need.

Lucky me all 5 were on the recall some a year later so I got 5 new tires one had never been on the ground still had the label on it.

I replaced my Hi-Specs with Carlisles after about 2 1/2 years and 10k miles. They still looked good and I never had trouble with them but I just don’t trust Chinese tires. I guess I’ve heard too many horror stories. Also went with a heavier load range and a taller profile. It sure makes the trailer ride more level.
