My Durango 321RKT is currently in storage so wondering if someone could take a couple measurements and verify something for me. One thing that I really wish that KZ did from the factory was ensure that the Lippert control pad was in a individually locked storage compartment or within the existing storage compartment of the unit. Don't get me wrong, the location of the pad is convenient for line of sight when hooking and unhooking the unit but would be nice if it was secure. I would rather not just rely on a king pin lock. Some extra piece of mind having the leveling system under lock and key would be great. If someone with a drop frame construction could verify two measurements it would be appreciated. 1.) Measurement from the top of aluminum propane cabinet to the aluminum floor joist in the area behind the leveling control pad. 2.) Confirmation that there is a gap between the interior wall and trailer chassis in the same location. If anyone could measure that width as well. Attached is a stock photo of a unit that I highlighted in red of the exact area in question. I plan on installing the attached compartment if the space and clearances permits. Will have to be in the same location as there is already a hole in the exterior wall for the unit as is. If anyone else already did this then that would be great to see as well. Cheers

why not replace the current "locks" with a lockable latch like this? There is a hole already and it would be a very simple fix to lock the cabinet. Being retired law enforcement I will say the lock will keep honest people honest but if a thief wants it he will not thin twice about prying the compartment open. The thief does not care about damaging your RV and if it's pried you can have some major damage I took one theft report from a camp ground that I recall, some camping gear from a tent.
I currently have a generator mounted on the rear, solar decorations, an aluminum step, 8ft aluminum latter under the RV and none of the outside cabinets locked, even though we are frequently gone all day. I did lock outside when I left the RV in a Tucson camp ground while I took a cruise to Alaska for 10 days. I have been RVing years and have never lost anything. Guess there is always the first time and personally if they want it I would rather they take it w/o damage to the RV.

I Don't think he wants to mount it in side the Propane Tank compartment, and besides, those shouldn't be locked anyways and it's electronics, should that control panel ever spark, BOOM!

The controls not inside? Mine I open the battery compartment to access, that could be locked with the above lock. Not sure about the different models and years but that compartments on the opposite side.

By law, the propane compartment can NOT be locked.

There is 6" from the top of the propane cabinet to the bottom of the trailer support. I could not get the distance between the inner and outer wall. The photo turned on its side and i couldn't rotate it. So what you see on the right is the top of the propane cabinet and the black is part of the frame, all of the frame members in the area are the same height. Hope this helps you.

View AttachmentThanks, that's great. I only need 4 3/4" height for the cutout dimensions so the recessed access hatch I have picked out should work. Thanks again.

Finally got around to this project. Had to modify the inside of the compartment to accommodate the aluminum frame as shown in the pictures. Did not want to notch any frame. Otherwise it tuned out as expected and at least now I can lock access to the Lippert Leveling Controls as is the case on most RVs these days. Unsure why the photographs rotate when uploading but you get the idea.

Very nice job! As questionable as LCI electronics are, it blows my mind that they insist on putting stuff like this OUTSIDE, especially unlocked, with no way to cut off the power. Idiotic...

That’s an excellent idea! I’ve been wanting to secure mine as well, plus protect it from the elements. I’ll be ordering one of those soon. Thanks! Jay
