I’m no 100 pound weakling - I’m 57, athletic, and work out all winter and golf near daily as soon as courses open (I’m in N. Idaho). I’m saying that because we just purchased a 2022 Durango 301rlt, and those nice, sturdy stairs are outrageously heavy. We brought it home to start packing for a trip, and brought it right back to the dealer a few days later to get a step assist installed. Unfortunately, the stairs installed by the factory do not have a step assist available, so we had to have the entire stair assembly replaced to the tune of just under $1200. It really was a necessity as I was unable to raise and lower then myself & had to have hubby do it. I could have managed possibly, but did not want to risk an injury. It would be nice if a better stair assembly with stair assist was part of the Durango package.

The step assist can be added to the Lippert Step Above if that is what you had. Not sure about the Morryde although I have had both. I added it on this Escalade....wife does not like it:)

The Lippert assist does not work on the XF series steps.

I had MorRyde steps and had the steps replaced with a 4-step model and the following year I had step assist added to those steps. The cost was $150 for the step assist with a rally discount. The steps were $400. No idea what they are selling for now. For anyone else thinking of getting the step assist, and are mechanically inclined to deal with MorRyde directly.

I pulled the 4 step aluminum and went 5 step Glowstep. I added the handrail after back surgery step link
