Howdy to the board,
I am new to Rv'ing and just bought our first RV (241RLK). Just wanted to check if any one has experience issues with the keys not wanting to insert into the locks. The lock on the outdoor kitchen is not working at all, two other locks work but require a lot of working the key to get it to set properly. I have tried several times to apply some graphite to the locks but that doesn't seem to work. Appreciate any thoughts on what I can try.

For me: My baggage door locks would not let me insert the key the full way. I just sprayed some lube in the lock and forced the key in. Afterwards, everything worked correctly.

If these are the locks with the CH741 key, know that everyone has a key to your locks. You might consider replacing them with locks of a different number and all keyed alike, they are readily available. If you have something else, post a photo.

Mine has the Global Link keys with the purple cover. I had issues with my FR cargo trailer and broke a key in it. Managed to get piece out and ordered two coded keys for it. Found out it’s 9 numbers out from my Durango.

I had all my locks not wanting to accept keys, I almost never lock them. I was leaving my 5W for 10 days while I took a cruise to Alaska, I sprayed all of them with Teflon Based Lubricant. I used Blaster Advanced Dry Lube from Auto Zone.

You can also try burnishing the keys. Take some fine sand paper or an emery board and take the sharp edges off the keys. Makes them slide in easier. Use a dry lube spray in the locks. Not WD40 or any lube that does not dry, which attracts dust.

If you're having trouble with the locks on your RV, there are a few things you can try to resolve the issue: 1. Clean the locks: Dirt and debris can accumulate in the locks over time, making it difficult to insert the key. Clean the locks with a soft cloth or a can of compressed air to remove any dirt or debris that may be interfering with the mechanism. 2. Lubricate the locks: Applying graphite powder to the key and lock can help lubricate the mechanism and make it easier for the key to insert. You can also use a silicone-based lubricant spray specifically designed for locks. 3. Adjust the strike plate: If the lock is not aligned properly, the key may not insert easily. Adjust the strike plate so that it aligns properly with the lock mechanism. 4. Replace the lock: If the lock is damaged or beyond repair, you may need to replace it with a new one. If the lock still doesn't work after trying these steps, you may need to have it evaluated by a professional locksmith Highgate or RV technician. They will be able to diagnose the issue and determine the best course of action to repair or replace the lock.

Unless the locks themselves are faulty, burnishing the keys and lubricating the locks should do the trick. Several of mine were difficult when new. I prefer to use silicone spray lube. WD40 and PBBlaster are outstanding lubricants but silicone doesn’t collect dust and dirt near as badly. Hope this helps.
