I have 2, 100 amp lithium battries in my KZ, replacement for the lead acid. The converter, inverter was replaced for lithium batteries.
My question is when stopping for the night, say at a Walmart, do I need to do one t the 7 pin plug from my Ram 1500?
I heard that if I don't, the lithium batteries will try to charge the truck battery, causing the lithium battries to run down and possibly damage the trucks lead acid battery.
Anyone know the answer, or have heard this information? Rv Travels

I can't say i know the answer to your question, however, when i converted to Lifepo batteries, the info that i saw was that you could damage the tow vehicle alternator if the Lithium batteries were too low and asked too much demand from your TV alternator, one of the remedies was to either install a DC to DC charger , or disconnect the 12v wire from TV to camper, that is what i did, i unhooked it in the junction box of the 5th wheel. so-i can't charge my camper batteries while driving , but i have solar, that does it. if someone else pulls my camper, it won't hurt their TV, and if i tow some elses camper, it will charge theirs. So my suggestion to you would be the same, disconnect in the camper junction box, unless you need to charge with the tow vehicle, then yes, I would disconnect 7 pin when boon or wally docking. JMHO

Hi, I have been looking ATV to DC chargers and am a bit confused. I was hoping someone could give some advise as to the model I should purchase. 20 amp or 40 amp....seems not to have a 30 amp. Also is it installed in the truck or the trailer?
I have a Ram 1500 v8 hemi. Trailer has 2 lithium 100 amp battries in parallel. Trailer electrical system is 30 amp. I have a lithium battery converter in the trailer.

I used the Victron 30 amp - Victron Energy Orion-Tr Smart 12/12-Volt 30 amp 360-Watt DC-DC Charger, Isolated. I found it cheaper than Amazon elsewhere but don't recall exactly where. Would have to look at email at home. You could use whatever # amps you are comfortable pulling from your alternator and pushing into your batteries. I liked 30 amps to not put a lot of draw on the alternator. I am sure 40 would be fine as well, I just wanted a Victron part. I mounted it on the trailer, but you could put it in the truck if you want. Just easier to monitor with the rest of my Victron gear when on the trailer. You really need to run a new pair of wires that can handle 30 (or 40 if you have the renogy) amps. The wires in the 7 pin connector are not large enough to supply 30 amps. I also tried to just ground to the bumper mount and that was not an adequate 30 amp ground. So I ran a pair of 6 gauge wires from truck battery to bumper and terminated at an Anderson connector. Then Anderson pigtail connector on the trailer on to the DC-DC charger in the battery box.

Thank you for the information, much appreciated. Can you advise. 1. The wires in the truck are connected to the battery, not the alternator then? 2. The wires in the trailer are also connected to the trailer batteries and not the inverter, converter?
Did you install a cut off switch on the truck wires?

Yes, wires in truck are placed right at the battery.
In truck, on left of picture, I used a Buss circuit breaker. The breaker can be manually tripped and used as a disconnect.
Wires on trailer go to the dc-dc charger, then from charger to the batteries.
With the Victron charger, you have a few options for charger turn on. You can wire in a switch, you can use a 12V wire that is hot when the engine is running, or you can use the engine on auto detect. I use auto detect and it works good. If you don't have a method to only activate the charger when the truck engine is running, the truck battery could be discharged.
