My battery cargo door won't unlock, the key lock just turns in a circle in the handle. I'm thinking I may have to drill this lock out. I think the mechanism is in the lock position for good.
Anyone run into a similar issue?

The lock cylinder is removable, but you need a special "key" that releases the cylinder. A competent RV dealer, or an RV oriented locksmith should have this key, so you might try calling either to see if one of them can help you. Hopefully, the tang on the end of cylinder broke off and isn't catching to unlock the lock (if that makes sense?).

Instead they sent me some instructions for attempting to wedge a flathead screwdriver into the door to pop the latch mechanism then drill a 3-4" hole from the cargo area into the battery compartment to pop the latch with my hand. Seems extreme.

I guess if it was me, I'd go ahead and drill the lock out, you're going to have to replace it anyway, I'd be concerned about hurting the door, or latch side, using the screwdriver method. JMHO. You might have to find a way to hold the lock from spinning as you drill it.

I had one of mine that wouldn’t unlock. It acted like I was trying to use the wrong key. Only way dealer could fix it was order a new latch from KZ with cylinder already installed and keyed. Now I have one latch that requires a different key. 😡

I had never locked mine in 4+ years, then I was leaving it in an RV park while I went to Alaska. None of the locks wanted to work until I put graphite into them. I had to move the keys in and out until the tumblers worked.

Unfortunately you need to talk to a tech who understands locks, most don't. check out this site, they have everything RV lock related: Lock supplier siteTool / key used to remove cylinder Removal tool link

Now I have one latch that requires a different key. 😡 Right now my camper is at the dealership for another problem they keep screwing up on, i.e., correctly installing the dining room slide cylinder. I asked them to look at the compartment door and get it fixed since it's at the dealership anyway. I sent them the KZ latch part#s because it want it keyed to the same key. It may just be the tumbler that needs to be replaced, we'll see I guess. I would think these guys have run into this before and know how to get into the compartment without damaging the door.
