I searched the forum and really didn't see anything specific on this topic. When retracting this slide, the top sticks for a few seconds while the bottom of the slide starts to come in. After a few seconds the top part of the slide finally gives and the slide comes in as normal. I tried lubricating the top portion of the slide from the inside of the camper when it's fully retracted to include the seals around the slide. This didn't do any good. The appliance slide doesn't have this problem, it comes in fairly smoothly.
I'm pretty faithful about lubing the rack and pinion system underneath so I really don't think that has any bearing. I know the model year I have seems to have a defect on the top portion of the slide, i.e., water pools in a couple of spots on the slide and it's not completely level on the top. Not sure that has anything to do with it or not.
Any suggestions on preventing the slide from sticking? I fear after a while it will damage something mechanically.

If it is sticking you need to condition the slide seals, that pop as it comes loose is the seal sticking. Get a spray conditioner, pull the slide in 6-8 inches or what every make you comfortable and spray the seal from inside.

Hi When you say the seal sticking, I assume you're talking the fixed flexible seal around the slide out. I have conditioned that. Is there a seal on the slide itself I'm perhaps missing? Thx

The slide that is in question, the one that houses the dining table and the theater seat is a flush floor slide. While extending the slide, when it reaches it's max stroke the top stops while the floor "drops" into it's "flush" position. When retracting that slide, the top/roof will stay stationary while the bottom/floor will raise causing the slide to "tilt" slightly... then the whole slide will retract. While I would need to actually see what symptom you are having, what you are describing sounds normal for a flush floor slide. Your bedroom slide and the kitchen/entertainment slide are raised floor slides. they go straight in and out. hope this helps.

I still think the top is sticking a bit because when retracting, it sounds like a strip of velcro when the top finally releases. I still wonder if there's something I can do along the lines of lubrication to help that issue. I'm ok with the top doing what it does when retracting as you stated was the purpose as long as it won't cause any undue stress on the hydraulic system. I've already had a hydraulic cylinder replaced on that slide recently.

Not sure about a 'pop' but I responded to jetzen in that it sounds like velcro ripping apart when the top finally gives way. My only concern is undue stress on the hydraulic system, i.e., causing leaks and/or pump issues.

I'm ok with the top doing what it does when retracting as you stated was the purpose as long as it won't cause any undue stress on the hydraulic system. I've already had a hydraulic cylinder replaced on that slide recently. The wiper seals on the slides are double an inner and an outer. The noise you are hearing is the seals trying to change directions. If you have ever noticed on High end trailers like DRV they put bumps on the slides to help the seals change directions. When the slide is extended the wiper seals are pointed to the outside. If the slide is extended for any length of time they form a memory and want to stay in the out position and what you are hearing is the seal scaping on the textured surface of the slide roof membrane, or they make a squeak on the sides. The only harm this will do is if the top wiper seal stays pointed out and it will then grab the transition tape that is on the outer slide flange. I always wipe the hydraulic ram piston rods with a DRY silicon lubricant, both slides and landing gear. DO NOT use WET lubricants on any type of rubber seal as they attract dirt and debris and can swell the rubber seal causing deterioration and leaks. Trust me when I tell you that if there was a physical obstruction the hydraulic system on the slides would have already ripped the problem area right off the trailer. The hydraulics are fast to deploy but are destructive if anything is in the way. If you have checked all around the slide and see nothing obvious that would be a problem, my conclusion would be that it is just the normal noises.

My slide does the same thing. Looks like the roof of the slide is sloped were it rest on the Trailor wall and when it lifts up to go in it pulls on the Trailor wall some causing the noise. I have not seen any damage caused by this but it sure sounds bad at times.

Just a note here to think about, our old Coachmen use to make a popping sound because the slide was sticking an need to have a slide adjustment ...Once the slide adjustment was done the popping noise an sticking went away ... I agree on the seals as well, but just in case you might have your dealer or a good reliable RV repair shop check for adjustments Just my Safe Travels Chuck

Hey Chuck, You mentioned in another thread that you found a good local RV tech. Care sharing who that is? I'm in The Everett area. Thanks, Rick

Hey Chuck, You mentioned in another thread that you found a good local RV tech. Care sharing who that is? I'm in The Everett area. Thanks, Rick Rick Country Canopy & RV Center INC Chehalis WA 98532 Office number 360-748-1975 Dave is the owner, it is a small business, he has no web site, all his work orders are written out, no computer ... He is always a month an sometimes more out on taking in work, he is honest an true to his word, as some would say he is just a good-oh-boy trying to make a living .... He is just off I-5 on Rush RD, you can see his shop from the interstate, it dozen't look like much but Dave an his crew make up in preformace from what you might think at 1st glance from the highway
I say this because we have four other friends that feel the same way about Dave, two with Class A's an the other two with 5th wheels ...

Thanks for that Chuck. Do they do extensive repairs, like for delamination? I'm currently getting an estimate from JR's RV repair up in Sedro Wooly (I'm in Everett) but I'll definitely keep Country Canopy and RV center in mind in the future.

This is interesting as we just picked up our 2022 Durango 301 RLT and that dining slide does exactly the same thing. We also had it at the dealer service for several days and they moved the slides out multiple times (for different issues) ... but said nothing about this being abnormal??

You can call Dave an Ask, not sure about de-lamination ...
