Hi Everybody, I recently winterized my trailer (2013 KZ Sporstmen S280BH), however I had some issues.
The water heater is equipped with a bypass, however it is only one valve (Flare-it 3 way valve) that diverts water from the inlet at the bottom up to the outlet at the top. When filling the water system with anti-freeze, gallons of anti-freeze followed the bypass and simply dumped in through the tank outlet! Do I need to install another valve to prevent this from happening or am I doing something wrong? Any help or suggestions you can provide would be a big help.
Thanks, JJ

Your doing something wrong, the valve is installed to allow you to by-pass the hot water tank, after all the systems are winterized the valve is turned to do the hot water tank, it is best to remove and drain the tank, from the outside,at the drain/anode plug, this plug should be removed prior to winterizing, hope this helps, I can winterize my 240 BHS with 1.5 gallons on antifreeze

I did drain the hot water tank from the outside, put the plug back in and upon filling the system with the bypass valve turned, the hot water tank still received antifreeze (and a lot of it!) FYI - this is a similar piping layout to mine.... As you can see there is only one valve. When I turned it to bypass (ie. pointing up) the antifreeze went up the bypass piping and went back into the top of the tank. Is there supposed to be some kind of check valve at the tank outlet that may be faulty or not installed?

Hi again there should be a Brass check valve, on the hot out, at the top of the tank. I have the same set up, with 1 valve, the check valve prevents back flow into the tank.

Thanks. I'll take a look at it. It definitely appears to me malfunctioning!

Bro JJW,
I suggest to follow up with your dealer to make sure you have covered all the bases as freeze up could be damaging and costly.
