Hi we are new Durango 5th wheel owners. 333rl We Noticed that the control panel for the jacks and level system is located on the outside of the trailer. It is not inside the storage compartment nor does it have a cover or anyway to lock it. Anyone could come along and press retract all jacks or etc. this could be a safety hazard. Has anyone managed to figure out a way to cover this or any solutions? Thanks in advance

Thanks in advance Let me get this straight; you have an auto-level system but the control panel is literally on the =outside= of the rig and not in one of the storage compartments? I've not seen a single rig from any mfr with the auto-level system panel on the outside. I =have= seen power jack swiches for a non-auto-level system on the outside on plenty of rigs. I do agree that that can be an issue if you have stupid family or friends. Simple solution is to put an in-line switch on the wires =inside= a locking storage compartment. My old Komfort had a small, locking, panel over the front jack switch. Lyle

I own a 333RLT also & yep that's right where they put it, outside just above the propane storage access door which by the way has no lock on it! So far I've not had any problem with someone tampering with the control or propane theft. I'll probably put a lock on the propane door but I never really thought that the outdoor control was a risk?

I saw one like that, mounted outside, but my question was what's the weather going to do with electronics outside? Never thought about someone pushing buttons.

Yes it’s very strange I have never seen on like that either. Never thought about the weather element of it. Not sure what to do with it

It's illegal to have locks on your propane access. I know someone who actually was written a ticket when a CG worker called the local Fire Marshall. I will say that he probably got the ticket more because he's a hot-headed a-hole than if he'd just removed the locks. :-) As for the control panel, I'd be =way= more worried about the weather hardiness of it, especially if it's =anything= by LCI. Thanks Laknox, good to know about the propane door lock, that's one more check mark off my list of round-to-its! As far as the outdoor mounted control goes, I am also skeptical but LCI says it's designed to be mounted exterior. Now just to be clear, I only trust them slightly more than the government. Here is an example of the same control mounted on the exterior of a fifth wheel, mine is mounted on the side right above where the propane access door is: www.youtube.com/watch?v=4AFuHzYQ6O0

The propane should be right next to a basement door and maybe you could remount it inside. Cover the holes with something depending on what you find under, something like an outside work light.

Both of our fifth wheels had it unprotected outside. Our 366 FBT, a gold mind you and our new 326RLT Durango. Worried about it at first, but we were out 16 weeks last year and to my knowledge no one bothered it. Kirt

One of the more stupid ones I saw, on a Jayco, was having the external speakers on the slide aft of the entry door, when the awning, where you'd be sitting, is forward of the door. Lyle

I too have never seen a 5th wheel with the jack control panel exposed. Also, I just looked at a video of OUR new unit, 391RKF, and it too has the jack controls on the out side, in the open. I WILL be fixing that once we get it parked for outfitting. Either a cut off switch mounted inside or moving it.
Now, I've not had the chance yet to use the OneControl or what ever it's called in side, so maybe there is a lock feature on it.

I too have a 333 and like everyone else’s, the control is located outside, just above the propane access door. I’m not really thrilled with the location but it does appear to be weather proof, or at least weather resistant. At least I certainly hope it is.
