Hello looking at this half ton fifth wheel. For those that own a Durango half ton how did it compare to the Grand Design 150 series half ton? Why did you ultimately pick the KZ? I’m torn between the two. The Durango seems to add a little more bling but GD has its striking points also.

Hate to say it, but Grand Design seems to have a bit of an edge on KZ in quality these days. Lyle

A friend has a 2017 Reflection, and it is pretty similar to our 2014/15 Durango 1500 (predecessor to the Halfton series) they have a few things swe would have liked, and we have some things they don't have, so always a trade off. Pin weights will be higher than advertised though on both, and wouldn't think of pulling either one with a half ton pickup, JMHO. We have been generally satisfied with the quality of construction of our unit but I think ours was built just before Thor bought out KZ, however.

Thanks. Since the interior appliances seem to the same as well as basic construction and roof warranty about equal I really see similar units. You are absolutely right about trade offs - one unit has something better at any given time than the other and vice versa. The Durango half ton seems to offer a bit more than the Reflection 150 series but hard to know. The salesman made a big deal about pounding on the GD walls for how Hardy they were but then the Durango offered something the Reflection didn’t making it seem “better”.

Before buying our Durango, we looked at the Reflection fifth wheels extensively. I thought we got more for the money spent with the Durango, but ours is not the half ton series. We have friends with a Reflection 337 (similar floor plan to our 333) and I very much prefer ours. Neither have had any significant issues. But… do your homework and buy what works for you and best fulfills your needs. They’re both overall great trailers but none are 100% trouble free either. Good luck!

Both trailer are pretty good units, I believe at one time you get more bag for the buck with Kz .... But saying the above your dealer is the breaking point, good dealer good product, bad dealer even if you have a good product the dealer will make it as a bad product when there is lack of support ... I can't say it enough make sure you have a good dealer who will stand behind the product, the salesman will tell you anything to sell you the trailer, but in the end it's the maintenance department who will be your best friend not that salesman, he/she will forget you in a week .... Safe travels Chuck

I agree with Chuck, depending on how the pricing is today, KZ did offer more bang for the buck, don't know of that's still the case. As Chuck said a dealer can ruin a great product, so that is something else to consider.

We were looking at the 2022 Grand Design Reflection 150 Series 295RL. Could not locate one. All we could find were the 2023 models. The KZ won out by purchase price only. We like the floor plan. Fit and finish is Ok, not great Our 2023 Durango 290RLT only has an 1100# payload capacity. You really need to count and weigh every toothpick when loading this trailer. No room to carry any fresh water. KZ could have easily added a bit more payload by saving weight in other areas. For example, ours has the 18cf residential fridge. 1/4 smaller would still be great. 65" TV. A 42" would be perfect and lighter. The fireplace could be 1/2 as big with the same heat output, and again lighter. Electric recliners, make then manual and save some weight. Grey tank too small. LCI one touch is just stupid. Put some light switches in.
