Hello, new to this forum. Wife and I looking to purchase a durango 321. Love the floor plan. Will a 3/4 ton chevy duramax do the job? Thank you.

First off, welcome to the forum. Short answer is yes, your truck will probably pull the trailer and stop it reasonably well. Is it safe? maybe, maybe not, depends on how heavily specified your truck is, how much stuff you load in the trailer. The legal by the numbers answer is it's hard to say for sure without knowing the exact specifications of your truck. Here are some very generic thoughts. The KZ site lists a hitch weight of 2,000# (dry and with none of your stuff in it, so probably somewhat light). Start by looking at the door sticker on your truck, it should list payload, which is the max load you truck is rated to carry. Lets say your truck has a payload of 3,000#, less the 2,000# hitch weight leaves 1,000# for you, the family, 5th hitch and other stuff. And this is assuming the rear axle capacity isn't exceeded by just the hitch weight.

I now wouldn't touch anything over 11k with my '02, even though my old Komfort was 11,360 GVW. I =know= I was overloaded, but my RAWR and tires were within spec. If I load up my D1500, I bet I'd still be over on the combined weight. If you have a 2500 that's less than 5 years old, you probably won't have too many issues, but I sure as heck weigh it when ready to camp. Lyle

I can’t answer your question about your truck without knowing more about it but I can tell you about my personal experience. I tow my 333 with a Ram 2500, but I am most definitely over payload. My stated pin weight is 2060 but a more realistic number fully loaded is 2600 lbs. My truck has the same rear axle and spring package as the 3500 and I am under my GAWR and GCVWR as well as the weight rating for my tires. I also have air bags which do nothing for capacity but do help stabilize the truck tremendously. All that being said, the truck is basically a 3500 with a 2500 badge and handles the load beautifully, but the yellow sticker still states my payload capacity at 2100 pounds. For legality purposes, my next truck will be a 3500.
