I was looking into buying a portable waste tote as I am heading out on a 9 day trip. Most people say to get a larger one than the tanks which my camper has 30 gallon tanks. My neighbor brought up a pretty valid point to me and asked if I plan on waiting until my tanks are completely full before I empty them. Since the Camco tank is either 28 or 36 gallons and there is about a $46.00 difference between them he got me thinking. Any advice out there?

I'd go with the larger than the tank option. To me it not worth it to over fill the tote. Once there is sewage in the hose between tote and termination point on trailer your going to have a mess. You'll also have to keep a very close eye on trailer tank levels. Depending on your length of stay you may have to make a trip or 2 more if you have to dump before tanks are full. Keep in mind the plumbing between trailer tank and valve is going to add a little bit more. Personally I have a Barker 42 gallon tank. most times I can get by with one trip to the dump station.

How and where will you empty it? 28 gallons x 6 lbs per = 168lbs give or take, you won't lift it into the truck bed might be able to pull it if it's not far and you have good roads, most have small plastic wheels. JMHO.

My experience is get one with 4 wheels that you can tow and don't need to lift to dump, as Edd said- water is really heavy

Well shopping is produced a strange fine. I can buy the Camco 36 with 2 wheels and add the wheel kit for the front for less than I can buy it for quite a few dollars less than buying it with 4 wheels from the manufacturer.

JMHO. Um, Edd, water is 8.3 lbs / gal. Add in solids for black water, and you're looking at about 8.5 lbs / gal. You must be thinking about avgas. :-) Lyle
