As I contemplate my impending retirement, and the ability to spend much more time in our 5ver traveling, I'd like some feedback from those of you who have considered an Extended Service Plan, such as the one from Good Sam, for your tow vehicle and/or RV. Are the contract coverages adequate for your needs? Have you been satisfied with materials and workmanship? Is customer service OK? Please share your stories! These plans are not inexpensive, but if they work as advertised it might be a good investment.

I just purchased a used unit and the dealer tried their darnest to sell me on a warranty at a cost of about $1,000.00 per year. The 1999 5'r, I pulled over 45K miles, I spent a little $2,500.00 in repairs and mainatence in the 7 years that I owned it. That included repacking/replacing wheel brgs every couple of years. Installing new brake shoes, adjusting the brakes very 5000 miles, along with other repair
When I was in sales (as the sales manager) I had to push the extended warranty for two reasons, the manufacturer pressured me, and the dealer margin/profit was pretty good (top end 30% Dealer Profit). Only twice did it benfit the customer
For those reasons I don't buy any extend warranty, period.

Thanks! Your response pretty well sums up what I've heard from most other folks, especially if your focus is on preventive maintenance vs. waiting for things to go wrong. I'm going to pass on the extended warranty, stay on top of services, and set aside so much per mile towed as a maintenance reserve, to cover scheduled and unscheduled maintenance.

We did purchase an extended service contract from Wholesale Warranties... It was an 84 month term (7 Years) and the best part is that it's an "Exclusionary" type, meaning that it covers everything except what is excluded on a very short list. Price was good, deductible is $100 and it lets me sleep better at night. I can and do handle a lot of repairs, however, I'm not an HVAC tech, or a refrigerator tech, or a plumber. Anytime you have something in those types of systems, while I could "probably" repair them it would take a lot of research (YouTube & Google and this Forum! and a heck of a lot longer for me to repair than a real RV Repair Shop. That's why I spent the money, strictly peace of mind.

I also purchased an extended warranty, as I did when I bought my diesel truck. Extended warranties for low cost items, such as appliances I don't bother with, but when it comes to an a $70,000 item with lots of high cost breakable parts, I have a little different perspective. The cost for an additional 5 years over K-Z's 2 year warranty was about 3% of the purchase price or just over $2,000 with a $100 deductible per occurrence. If you think of what the cost of replacing just one of the hydraulic leveling struts might be, it would almost pay for itself. I too bought the "Exclusionary" type policy which covers everything that not specifically excluded. And there's not much on that list. Like all insurances, I hope I never have then need to test it out to see that it works.

I agree with Loanshark. I bought it with my new rig. One issue with the hydraulic system or major appliance will cover the cost.
