We have a set of what I refer to a tiki lights we like to hang from the edge of our awning. Well we just switched to a 5th wheel and now the awning is 10 or so feet in the air. Those of you with this issue how do you hang the lights? Yeah I could reach it with a ladder but I'm thinking that's too time consuming if I ever need to retract them in a hurry, ie storm blowing up out of nowhere. Are their any other suggestions or where and how to hang these lights. Not owning a fiver previously I have never really paid attention to how folks hang them.

I would get a step stool if you really want the lights. I personally do not want my RV looking like Christmas, I don't even use the awning lights. I do use the over the step light at night and it's all I need even sitting out. At the sticks & bricks I find any light draws bugs so we built a screen room so we can have some light if we want to sit out and read, even the Kindle draw them.

I don't necessarily have to hang them from the awning. I'm just looking for suggestions on how to hang them anywhere. My experience with outdoor lighting is the bugs aren't an issue when using LEDs.

we have electrical outlets on the outside of our 5th wheel an I suppose if you had such you could use such ... A few years ago at a camp ground we were at they ask one trailer to take down their hanging lights from their awning an around their trailer .... We do use our outside awning lights if we have neighbors next door to us or company over in the evening at times but do not leave them on otherwise, we also have cap lights but have only had them on once at night at the Kz Rally ... I stopped hanging awning lights when we got this new style awning. What kind of lights do you use? Are they the LED ropes or are they decorative fixtures?
I imagine that the ropes could be laid out on the ground. Some of our group went with ground effect lights that are mounted under the camper. You could set up two poles and stretch the lights between them.
These new awnings really put a stop to awning lights. The only time I've seen them lately is if someone has a regular pole style manual awning.
As an aside, have you seen those automatic dumping awnings when they get water on them? Oh boy, I was standing in the wrong place at the wrong time this past weekend... talk about a wake-up call!

I love having the LED light strip on my rig, but the blue lights tend to attract bugs. So, I usually use the =yellow= light over the door instead. Another unthought out "convenience" by the marketing people who probably ignored the engineers, most likely. Given how cheap LED strips are these days, why not give owners the option of, GASP!, a color selectable strip! My middle granddaughter has one in her bedroom (she's 6), that cost < $20 on Amazon, and has a remote to change colors and functions. Bet the wholesale cost is < $2. Lyle

We used the hanging globes with LED bulbs when we had the bus but the LED strip under the awning is cheap and the brightness/color can be varied to suit your needs.
