My 160rbt has very little ground clearance. I ran over a tree stump yesterday and broke the sewer hookup pipe. I talked with the dealer today and he mentioned an over-under kit to raise it up. He said it wasn't an axle flip but similar. He said he needed to take a look at my trailer to see if it can be done.
I'm dropping off my trailer Monday but I'm curious, has anyone had an over-under kit installed?
Thanks, Greg

I have not, but I would really like some more ground clearance on my Sportsmen Classic 19BH.

Dealers estimate to do the over/under kit is $375. Seems a bit high to me but I'm going to have him do it. The low ground clearance is getting a bit old. Should be done next week.

That is great. Can I ask how much that cost to have done? Also, how does it ride at highway speeds?

It was $375. Not sure I can feel any difference in towing. I have a new tow vehicle too. At first I thought it felt like the trailer was being blown around more. But then I noticed it was a bit breezy. So hard to tell so far in the 45 minute ride home.

I took my 160 rbt into a trailer guy and he flipped the axel meaning now support springs are lower and axel higher. He ordered a new axel. Works great - rides level and higher…

So basically, we are putting the springs on top of the axle instead of under it?

So basically, we are putting the springs on top of the axle instead of under it? Yes, but the axle cannot just be flipped as it has an upwards curve to it. Spring perches would be welded on the axle opposite of the original ones. Original ones can be left on as they don’t interfere with the U bolts. At least they didn’t on my Dexter drop axle.

I have a MIG welder and could weld the "perchs" onto the top of the axle. Do they make the perches that I could just order them or do they have to be custom made. If they are available for purchase, do you have a source? Will the leaf springs stay together when I take off the U bolts or is that an issue? And I assume the Perch is not welded or fastened to the leaf springs in any other way other than the U Bolts? Here is my current setup.

I bought the perches where I purchased the trailer. Any trailer supply place will have them. You need to know axle capacity and if you don’t, just measure tube diameter. Springs stay together and perch is separate. Clamp perch in place and weld away.
