So, coming home from our recent boondocker, I decided to stop about 40 miles in to grab some food. My habit when I stop, is to walk around and look at, and feel, all my tires and hubs. I noticed that the RR trailer tire was significantly hotter than the other three. Made me stop and look at it more closely and I saw that the tread was rounded across the tire, instead of flat. So, tread's separating, but it's a "symmetric" failure, all around the tire. Rather than risk another nearly 100 miles, I changed the tire. DOT date of 2616 on all 5 tires, so > 5 years old. Now, my rig's placarded for D tires, which really are plenty of tire for a 10.5k GVW rig, given that an 8-ply D tire is 2540 lbs capacity, so over 10k lbs total. I'd probably hold my nose and buy Endurance (not a GY fan), but they don't make them in a D range in this size, at least that I can find. I did run a couple sets of the newer Carlisles on my old Komfort, but they were E rated. I liked them and had no issues with them. Almost always run at 70 psi instead of 80. Are there any decent D rated tires out there? Usual 225/75-R15 size. Should I just save some money and go with E rated Carlisles again, since I'd probably only run them at 65 or 70 psi? Should I bite the bullet and go to 16" wheels/tires? There are just so many more options with 16".

So, I ended up with Endurance as Discount Tire was out of the Carlisle Radial Trail HD...NATIONWIDE. In fact, they're showing it as discontinued, yet Carlisle customer service says that they're still in production, just 3-4 weeks behind.

That's what
That's what I have been running, GY Endurance from Discount. While their warranty isn't cheap, they have replaced several tires for me no questions asked. I still harbor some ill will towards Carlisle from their OEM tire failures back several years.

Went back up to Chino Valley, N of Prescott, and the trailer towed well with the new tires. Also, ended up having to put a new tire on the truck and would have put 2 on, but Discount only had one in stock. As it is, I've replaced 3 of the 4 Coopers on my truck in the last 2 months, with only one being due to a flat. The other 3 have all separated, giving a 75% failure rate. Given that DT is replacing them under warranty, despite them being 6 years old, I'm going back with the new version of the Discoverer ATP II. On the way back down from Prescott this morning, the last tire started letting go, so I jumped off the freeway and made it home on surface streets. Hard to argue when a new tire only costs you $35.

Got the last new tire installed about an hour ago. Man, the truck rides much more smoothly, even with the tires at 70/80 psi. The old set was installed in 2016 but I couldn't get a mfr date on them. Not sure of date on the new ones as Cooper only puts the full DOT info on the white letter side. Hopefully, they're reasonably fresh. Still, disappointing that these tires failed with so few miles on them.
