...with a "billowing" roof membrane a few days ago. Have read about this for years, and seen pics posted, but never witnessed one myself. I =really= wanted to catch up with the guy to let him know, but he exited before I could. He was hauling butt, though; 70-75 mph, at least.

I’ve seen quite a few. Most going the other way so I never get a chance to stop them. They’ll notice it when air finally gets in at the front or it starts ripping and then it’ll be flapping away. That’s why it’s so nice to have a ladder and check it at the next camp stop.

Yep, I have seen lots with the billowing roof, usually going the other way.

I’ve seen a couple... always feel sorry for them when they realize what’s going on. Replacing a membrane roof isn’t cheap!

That’s good! My old Forest River had roof damage from a hailstorm last summer and the insurance company totaled it. The estimate for the roof alone was almost $12k on a 32’ 5er. Luckily, we were already shopping and looking for a good excuse to upgrade so it actually worked out pretty well. That’s when we bought the Durango. Sure haven’t regretted that move! Jay

Turns out that there's a bunch of small tears in the membrane. John's bandaided it with Gorilla tape and Dicor, for now, but is having his insurance agent co. check it. I can't believe he didn't inspect it more thoroughly as soon as he got dried out from the original storm. Lyle

Lyle Mine was also only nickel to quarter size, but there was a lot of it and it was wind-driven. Luckily, I DID check mine as soon as the storm was over and before we hit the road. I had several quarter-sized half-moon shaped tears, broken roof vents, a cracked skylight, damaged awning, and all the insert trim was brittle and broken. Eternabond and Dicor saved us any interior damage. Always keep it on hand. Jay

Only hail damage I have had was at the OK TX line years ago in a company 18 wheeler. Took out the sky light, several cab marker lights, head light, cracked the windshield, and the side of the aluminum cab looked like I had gone after it with a ball pien hammer. I was asked every time I puled into a truck stop if I had until routed to the terminal for a new truck. I had caught the back edge of a tornado that went through and I had crawled into the sleeper as I did not know if the door window was going to hold.

So... I built this... Jay

Probably 1-1.5" of rain in about an hour, then it started hailing. Fortunately, it was pea-sized and not wind-driven. I =did= have a small amount of moisture around one of the end windows in a slide. Not sure if it came in around the outside seal, or what. A later rain storm did not leak. Lyle

Strange, I saw a =second= rig with a billowing roof last week, on the way to our annual boondocker. :-)
