So, every manufacturer out there that makes an RV with a deck on it, will tell you to close it when it rains. Well where's the fun in that??? I am a rain worshiper, there's nothing I like better than watching (or playing in) the rain. So, we decided as soon as we purchased our G382MBQ that we were going to waterproof the deck as soon as we brought it home. Well with a ton of trials, aggravation, etc it's finally done. I am sorry I didn't get progress pics, but I will tell you it wasn't pretty. It was a lot of experimentation and aggravation to get it to where it is now, but I think it will be worth it. Here are the steps: We glued and screwed a sheet of 1/4" plywood to the deck on the inside of the metal trim that goes all the way around to bring it up to level with the outside trim. That way when it rains, the "bathtub" that would hold water would be gone. Next we painted the entire deck with rubber truck bedliner. The deck sagged a bit in the middle, so it also had to be leveled. Next we glued down a thin sheet of rubber diamond plate. Last we painted the entire deck with the stuff you roll on your RV roof. We figure that will probably wear off so we plan to throw a rug on it when we use it. In this crazy Arizona heat, the black was just entirely too hot.
We will also be sealing every inch of the rear sliding door, just haven't gotten to that just yet.
Pics to come...

So hubby finished sealing the back end of the trailer as well....hopefully this will be ready for the rain! We leave in a couple of weeks for a two week trip to the mountains where it is actually raining. I can't wait!

Looks awesome! How much weight do you think it added? No issues in cranking it back up?
FWIW, it's been raining here in Chandler since about 4AM. Blowing, too. YAY!

Lyle Probably no more than about 100 lbs, and no issue closing the deck back up. I'm jealous about your rain! Since all this monsoon has started, we've gotten NO measurable rain here at home. Every storm that's headed our way splits about 1/4 mile from us and goes around. Doesn't matter which direction it comes from. I think we need a high powered elephant gun or something to shoot a hole in that stupid dome that's over our house. Maybe THEN we'd get some rain!!

Other than a few sprinkles, we've not had any rain at my house, until yesterday. Some friends in S Gilbert (around Hunt Hwy and Higley) got 0.9" in under an hour on Sunday and we got a pretty good shower at our shop at Val Vista and Riggs Rd. If my pool's any indicator, we got close to an inch at my house. Lyle

woooohooooo!!! Finally got some rain!!!!
So....the white stuff that you roll on the roof of your rv - that's a no-go. It did not adhere very well, it's going to peel off. So gotta come up with a plan B for that. The black rubber diamond plate needs to be covered with something other than BLACK because it's so freakin' hot in the summer in SE AZ. We'll let ya know what we come up with. Stay tuned!!!

Plan B in action after a couple of preliminary tests!! You all know that stuff they advertise on TV, Flex Seal??? That stuff appears to work like a charm. We have tested it on some left over pieces of rubber diamond plate and those tests are proving positive. Tomorrow we're gonna give it a try. Stay tuned once again!!

You might want to scuff the rubber before applying the flex seal. If you have a wire wheel with "coarse" wire, that might work. Otherwise, a wood block with coarse sandpaper. Just want to have something for the coating to "grip". Another alternative is the DIY roll-on bed liner. Lyle

Flex seal worked! Looks the same as the roof coating, but the roof coating peeled off like a ripe orange. This stuff will probably wear off the top of the diamonds, but anything we do will wear off there. It's just jot easy to get it to come off. On another note, I'm also attaching a pic of the box we built to cover the receiver controller in the basement. Attachments:

Final step - hubby stitched together two pieces of artificial grass that came with the fifth wheel; made a rug to fit the deck. Even cut out places where the hardware attaches to the deck, coated the back of it with flex seal, and adjusted fence because of increased height of deck floor. I would have just thrown an outdoor rug down on it, he wanted it to FIT. He's incredibly picky that way!

Very nice work, looks well done and I'm sure this will help others with the decks. Just what the forums for, sharing what works and what doesn't.
