Do the USB ports that are built in on the KZ trailers use any power when nothing is plugged into them?

If they do, I wouldn't imagine it's much, maybe a slight draw reducing the voltage to to 5V.

I am just trying to determine whether they are a continuous draw on the batteries, minuscule or not. Does anyone here know where one could acquire wiring diagrams for how the various electrical systems in the trailers are configured?

You need to check the draw on the device with a meter, I would pull it out and check at the connections.

lynmor,
That sounds good in theory, but there are USB ports all over the new KZ's. In armrests, in the walls, the ceiling above the bed, etc. I have to assume that all of them are fed from some centrally mounted unit that powers them all, and not individually housing their own transformer with a 12v input to them.

Then find the fuse or fuses that power them and check there. If you find a draw, perhaps you could eliminate the ones you don't need and put kill switches on the rest. If possible, maybe you could remove the USB outlet and replace it with a cigarette lighter type and then use that type of adapter only when you need USB.

It may depend on what kind of converter on the USB plug they are using to drop the 12 volts to 5 volts. if it's a standard voltage reducer, it may draw a very small amount of power. If it's a switch mode converter no current is drawn until something is plugged in. If you're worried about killing the batteries, it would probably take months to drain the batteries. If you are storing the trailer and don't want any current draw, turn off the battery disconnect switch. Of course even with the switch turned off your CO2/LP detector may still be powered. If you are really worried about it, pull the plate and install an switch on the 12 volt positive wire.

USB port should not draw any power unless it has LED lighting around it or when something is plugged in to the port.... If USB port has LED lighting around it the draw is so low that even if you had 7 or 8 it would take some time, days to draw the battery down .... As stated there are things that even if you turn off your battery swict there are things that still run an put a draw on your battery ... At home we leave our trailer plugged in (30amp)all the time, we do unplug the trailer from time to time to reset the the converter .... Safe Travels Chuck

Nice problem to have, mine don't even work. Heck what would I expect from a 35K dollar camper bought brand new!
