What are you using for trip routing to plan routes for trips? These new Golds are all running 13-6 high, which can be plus or minus. and have you measured yours for height?

I’m using the RV Life app. You fill in the dimensions of your rig during setup then you can select “RV friendly” routes based on your rig. So far it’s worked well.

I also use RV Life app. Have not been far yet since I just got my unit. But you are correct. I put in 13-8 to have a couple of inches buffer.

Go to lowclearances.com and d/l their d.b. of low clearance points. They have over 8,000 low clearances listed in the U.S. and Canada. $75, with lifetime updates. It's a standard POI d.b. and you u/l it right into your GPS app or device. Allows you to input your specific data and will reroute you if needed. I've not used mine, yet, as I tend to go to the same place(s), for now. FWIW, most RV or "trucker" apps/devices list only about 1500-2000 low clearance points. Lyle

Another useful site is called flattestroute.com. Gives you driving, cycling or running routes. Lyle

RV Trip Wizard is quite good. It has a subscription but you can enter trailer dimensions, travel radiuses, etc., and plan long, multi-day trips. Then I use my Garmin RV785 for the actual nav to each point.

This is always a personal preference thing ... but we measure 13'0". My "never go under" number 13'6". If they repaved the road since putting up the clearance sign, it could be a little less than the last time they measured.

I use CoPilot GPS and RV Life apps. I always plug address into both, and they don't always match. That way I can look at both routes and make a good choice. So far on this trip, Texas to the northeast, we have been ok. I will say, neither can prepare you for the narrow twitchy state hwys, in Maine, Vermont and New Hampshire. No shoulders and trees are not mentioned on either app. Kirt

Perhaps that's why it has so many, because it's not route specific.

I drove 750K miles in a 75ft class 8 truck that was 13'6". I never had a issue with bridges marked 13'6" or more and if it worked there I have no doubt my 5W is 13'6" or less. Unless the bridge is marked under 13'6" I drive on with no worries. Find one too low just turn around and find a way around the low clearance, many times its just take the off ramp cross over and reenter on the other side. Not sure why this is an issue for RVers. Watch the big trucks, they go under so will you.

Perhaps that's why it has so many, because it's not route specific. Never had that happen. Only used it a couple times, though. From what I've read, it is =supposed= to be route-specific, though I suppose if you have a route programmed in and take an offramp and cross over to the other side to hit a pit stop, it might alert. I'll be playing with it a lot more in the future, as DW is retiring at the end of the year and we're planning a lot more travel. As for the datapoints, they're simply in the POI d.b. and pop up as you drive, or plan a route. Lyle

well I have the DW phone put me on the stone back roads when the intestate was only a mile away from where we were driving Ugh !!!
He I phone has also lead me down the path the wrong way, telling me to turn left when the camp ground sign was clearly on the right just a few yards away LOL ...
As far as running up an a low underpass an then wanting to back up or turn around, I have always found out like a drive thought there's always 20 cars behind you when you screw up an they are all blowing their horns an voting you number 1 Ugh !!!!
