How are external propane tanks usually plumbed into an RV? Brother ran into an issue trying to refill a 30 lb bottle. Either there was nobody "qualified" to fill it, the attendant was alone and wouldn't leave the counter to do it or they refused to refill due to "lightning", which had stopped about 3 hours before. He finally found one mom 'n pop hardware place that refilled him, no problem. I told him a long time ago to arrange for the 100 lb bottle even before he took his FW to the property, but did he listen? Nope! Little bros are like that... :-)

Do you open up one of the hard lines and T off from that or do you tie in in the bottle locker, or what? I'm sure he'll have whatever local service do the work, but I want him to have the info so he can be sure they do it =right=! Lyle

In short you are installing a T between the existing tank and the regulator. The one leg of the T connects to the external propane tank.

Don’t know if his has one but mine has a propane outlet for gas grills, etc. Couldn’t that also be used for an external tank?

I don't understand the problem. Remove and take the tank to a propane dealer, most every town has one, or most Tractor Supply's refill them. Pilot fuel stops also do them.

One would think that, but in my case every time I need propane the place closest to the house isn't able to fill propane tanks because of employee or other BS issues so it's a 20 min drive to town. This is probably why the long term residents in the campground that is attached to this propane seller all have the large 100 Lb bottles.

Went to fill one of his tanks; first place only had one guy working the counter and refused to leave to fill his bottle. Drove down the road a bit, found an Ace but they refused to fill it due to "lightning" (there had been a t-storm that rolled through about 3 hours earlier), 3rd place had nobody "qualified" to fill his tank. Finally, after 30 minutes, he found a small mom 'n pop hardware store and they filled it with no problems. Next stop was another 15 minute drive away. Idiots everywhere... Lyle

LyleHow is he using two tanks of propane in a few days? We can get a month out of a bottle using the water heater and stove. The furnace will use more, but we normally just use a ceramic space heater.

He hadn't yet had a need to fill the tanks, since they're plugged in. Even in the summer, in the mountains of AZ, it can get a bit chilly in the mornings, so they use the furnace for an hour, or so, every day. They also like to use both electric and gas for the water heater for faster recovery when showering. Was the first time since he bought the rig that he needed to fill the tanks. Lyle
