We wanted to go see Mammoth Cave. The national park has tent camping but seemed like no RV camping. Well they have this area called Maple Springs which is setup so you can bring your horse and trailer to ride all the trails. And anyone, even if you do not have a horse can camp there. Previously only 2 sites had water and electric. Now all 7 or 8 sites have electric and water. There is no sewer hookup and we didn't see a dump station on any of the maps. We dumped at LOVES after the trip.
We went during the week, and out of 7 sites, only us and one other site were in use, and the second site left the next day. Sites are gigantic, I think ours was half an acre. Yes half an acre because if you have your horse, you need room
All kinds of tie offs for your horse too.
Was great stay. Just realize the main road into Mammoth cave visitor center, is easy... but with your RV, you are on the wrong side of the river, and the ferry has a weight and length limit. Driving all the way around the outside of the park with our RV was about a 30 mile extra loop. It was well worth the stay.
