Had RV in for repairs in November with Norcold 2118 not cooling They said they replaced the cooling unit, adjusted doors so the flapper closed correctly
I turned it on about 5 days ago, set to number 5, was in the mid 40's Set it to 9 and freezer was about 10 degrees, fridge about 42
Went into diag mode #3 and it said fin temp was 39, clip on second fin from right, about 1/2 " down 3 fans behind the frig come on occasionally
Outside temp was about 80
Should it be getting colder setting on 9, inside temp was about 43

To get an actual refer temp, put a cup of water in the refrigerator, check the water temp after 24 hours. Measuring air temp can be misleading

I will place a cup of water in today and check it on Monday
According to what I reviewed on the Norcold 2118, the correct placement for the clip is on the second fin from the right, 3/8 to 1/2 inches down Is anyone else using a different location where the clip should be.
Has anyone else gone into diagnostic mode number 3 to see their fin temperature

I have an oven thermometer for cooking meats that has a probe you stick into the meat and the readout sits on the stove (it's magnetic). I've used that to check my fridge, and it seemed to work well. Also, a few years ago, the big rage was adding internal fans to help circulate air within the fridge. Powered off the light and had its own thermistor that clipped onto the fins. 80 or 100 mm, IIRC, computer fan with clips to attach directly to the fins. Personally, I have one of those little blue cube fans that takes 2 D-cell batteries and I feel that it works pretty well. Got it with my old Komfort when I kept freezing stuff on the bottom shelf and stuff on the top shelf was at 40-42 (measured). No more freezing at the same setting. Still running strong after about 15 years! :-) Lyle

I checked the temp of a water bottle i placed in frig and it was about 41 using a infrared thermometer Opened the freezer and got -2 bottom left corner The thermometer I placed in the frig also had about 41 This is with the Temp set at 5
Also going into Diognostic Mode, the fin temp was 34
Clip was on the 2 fin from right, 1/2" down
Only thing I am worried about is that it not that warm out, in storage temp was about 70 - 75
Also looked at putting another fan on the upper vent but not sure if their is enough room for that Frig is in the slide out

The little blue cube works well for me. Mine's so old that it doesn't even have a switch, just starts up when you put the batteries in. Newer ones (Valterra), do have a switch. $16 bucks at CW, if you want to give Emperor Marcus the money. There are any number of other solutions out there, from cheap to expensive. If you're not happy with the fridge performance, the thermistor =can= be moved from fin to fin or up and down on the same fin. I =do= find it interesting that your freezer will get to -2, yet the fridge compartment is at 41; not cold enough for me. I like my fridge at about 36-38. Lyle

I have the same trailer and fridge. I run my fridge on 5, and the fridge is about 34 and the freezer is zero. Sometimes I bump it to 6 if its real hot, but have not had to go higher. Maybe I'm lucky and got a good unit.

OTH Thanks for taking the time to look at that
Edd505 I did watch those videos RV repair was very interesting, I looked at my top opening and looks like the top left corner could use some alum tape, there are gaps where I would think hot air could get trapped. I'm going to try to add one more fan on the top vent to push air out. I will try to get some pic's but it might be a while before I will be able to do it I'll try to update as soon as possible

Haven't yet watched the first video, but the 2nd one is pretty darn clever, if you ask me. I do wish he'd posted before and after temps. Lyle

The first one just shows how to spend $1600 to make a $4000 frig work It was interesting on the amount of electricity the 2118 uses
