Anyone have a recommendation for water softeners for an RV? Brother just got his water test back from the well on his property and it's 18 gpg, or =really= f'n hard. š Also, high in Iron. As he's likely to have his FW on site for 2-3 years, he wants to take care of it. TIA for any suggestions.

Are you familiar with softeners or iron removers at all? Reason I ask is size of unit is determined with a water test. Unit regenerates based on usage or time for newer electronic units. Personally, I have an iron filter for my house which just got changed a month ago. Iron filters work differently than water softeners. No salt required but air injection is needed. I have never heard of one for an RV though. Regeneration flushes the tank using a lot of water.

I use the On the Go Portable Double Standard water softener. I have about a month's worth of camping on it and have not had to regenerate it yet. For the length of time you are talking, you may be interested in the park model.

Very easy setup. Just runs inline with the fresh water hose. Only downside I can say is it's kinda heavy to move around, but not too bad. Dry weight is 32 pounds, so maybe 40 pounds with water in it. The one I have, the double standard, is about the size of a scuba tank. Maybe a little shorter. The way I set mine up, starting at the park hose bib is this: At the bib, I start with a normal Camco water filter, then a 25' or 50' hose into the water softener which I stand just under mu 5th wheel near the water hook-up, then a short hose out of the softener into the trailer. To make things easier, I ordered a ton of brass quick connects and have them on everything. Attachments:

That's the exact one I was looking at, do you drain it completely to move? I hate the water spots on the shower doors & walls, I squeegee & actually wax. I'm thinking you could use to wash the 5W and be almost spot free too. I bought the quick connects but they all seem to leak. When doing regen wheres the water go, I think to ground the parks would have issues. Pull the black & down the drain?

I never drain it. If I remember right, the instructions said not to do that or you can dump out the media that's inside. It comes with watertight caps that screw on for travel. The water softener makes a noticeable difference in the feel of the water, and it doesn't leave water spots on the shower door. I use it to fill the freshwater tank, and i use it with a pressure washer to wash the trailer, and I never dry it. Cuts down on probably 80% of water spots. I was tossed up between the smaller model and double standard I bought. When it arrived, It looked huge, but I'm glad I got the bigger one as much as I use it. Regarding regen, I've done almost a month of camping, filled the freshwater tank, washed it three times, and it has not needed a regen yet, but when it does, I'll probably just do it in my driveway, or maybe in the backyard sink. You just fill it with salt, connect the hose on the inlet, and turn it on just enough to let it dribble out for 20 minutes. If you have to do it at an RV park, just put it on the lawn or the gravel.

Thanks, I'm sold if it just saved time with washing the camper or truck an no spots on the shower door. Thanks for the info.

Brother told me that he's going to put up a shed and has decided to put in a residential unit in the shed since he's planning on building a cabin in the next 2 years. Thanks for the info, y'all.
