Hey folks.
Just filled both of my LP tanks and can't get the stove/oven to light. The changeover regulator window is clear (thought it was supposed to show green) for both tanks so I know it's detecting the propane from the two tanks. At first I thought it was because I opened the valves too quickly so I made sure both were reset and tried again. No luck.
I disconnected the bottom hose to the regulator and slowly opened up one of the tanks and I could feel some gas going through as I opened the tank valve slowly. As I opened the tank valve more the flow stopped and the window showed red. I'm going to replace the regulator and hope that's the issue. I heard the flow of gas can take a while to get to the appliances but I waited a couple of minutes while trying to light the stove/oven with no success. I've heard the pigtails can go but what are the odds both would be bad.
Thoughts?

We had a regulator and hoses go bad on the same camping trip on our bumper pull toy hauler a while back. The regulator caused all our propane to leak out. I would start with the regulator for sure.

Buy a new set and keep the old ones for spares...or just chuck 'em if you have any doubts. Lyle

Most of the larger propane dealer will make hoses for you. The original hoses were stiff and brittle, showing cracks was the sign they needed replaced. I could smell propane every time I opened the door. Reading the first part of your post, stove not lighting. Did you bleed the air out of the lines after refilling the tanks? Takes a minute for the propane to get there.

Takes a minute for the propane to get there. I didn't smell any gas in the propane tank area at all so I don't believe I have a leak. I thought the same thing about bleeding the air from the gas lines so I did wait at least a minute or 2 when trying to light the stove or oven. That didn't work either. Hopefully a new regulator will do the trick otherwise, I'm at a loss. I can't imagine the gas line going to the stove (can't test the water heater, don't have water hooked up at the storage site) is blocked or bad but who the hell knows. I'm not smelling any gas anywhere.

A minute many not be enough if the line was empty and the stores a distance, knob to pilot on the over and mine actually say lite on the stove knob, normally pilot you need to push in to let the flow until the thermocouple opens. Your refig gas/electric? If so does it work gas on gas. Furnace is gas and if you have a good battery it should light.
Nothing lights regulators a good place to start.

You might be right about how much time I should wait. My stove and oven are electronic ignition. Only other gas appliances are the water heater and furnace I believe. Frig is electric only (residential fridge). I can't try lighting the w/h with gas, I don't have any water hooked up at the storage site. My new propane regulator just arrived, I'll try that and hope that was the problem.

I'm a little late to the party but if you have a standard gas/electric water heater, you can quickly test (in gas mode only) to see if it will light as long as you turn it off as soon as it lights.

UPDATE: I changed out the regulator and just had to wait for several minutes for the air to bleed out of the propane lines. I tried the water heater first and it lit up fine, just took a while for the stovetop/oven to light after that. Thanks for everyone's suggestions.
